Summary: Young!Vince and Older!Rin are stuck together. Throw lust in it, and one thing leads to another.
Bringing her back had seemed like the best solution at the time. She did not seem cold, but she was still way underdressed for the weather, and she hadn't objected when Vincent had offered.
He still wasn't very confident around the house, even though he'd been told it was his. He could find his way around the kitchen, though, and he'd found a bed to put in what was apparently his room.
He turned to his 'guest' as they stepped inside.
"Can I get you anything ? A drink ? Something to eat ?"
The sorceress looked around the place, remembering that the last time she had been there was when they had talked about certain things.
Well at least she had informed her temporary housemate where she was going to be for the time being, since only Hyne knew how long she was going to be stuck to him.
“No, thank you, I’m alright.”
Well ... there went a good ice breaker. Vincent blinked, and then sighed, taking the gun out of his holster and putting it down on the table.
"Do you mind if I have something ? I could use alcohol right now."
He had seen his fair share of bodies in investigations, but this one had been nasty. Very slashed up. At least, SOLDIERS had the decency to not leave anything identifiable as a body when they killed someone.
He went to the cupboard and took out a glass and a bottle. He only gulped down a small quantity, though, and put the bottle back.
"You ... said you knew me, right ? I'm sorry, I still don't remember you."
“Go ahead. I don’t mind.”
When Vincent moved to the cupboards Rinoa followed him a bit. She wasn’t sure how much distance separated them and she really didn’t want to take the risk of having either of them passing out due to it. That wasn’t her idea of fun at all.
Also, it was a bit interesting to know that he liked alcohol. Or at least she supposed that he did but couldn’t be sure, and she really wasn’t going to ask him that.
“It’s okay, it’s not your fault,” she said very softly while she pushed a lock of her now rather long and annoying hair away from her face “You know, if you want to ask me anything you can.”
Vincent looked at her and nodded.
"Uh ... I don't have much in the way of furniture, but apparently other people use this area, so ... maybe we could move upstairs ? For more privacy ?"
He had not really meant anything by it, but only then remembered the beautiful woman in front of him telling him they had slept together, and his cheeks reddened slightly, although the color was barely visible under the tan.
A small smile appeared on her face when he blushed a bit. Now that was something Rinoa would never see once Vincent was back to normal, so she was going to save this image to her memory because it was too good to let it pass.
Slowly, she approached him, more than needed but not exactly invading much of his personal space just yet. “There’s no need for you to be embarrassed.”
Now with a rather teasing smile she lightly caressed his cheek with the tip of her fingers before she moved away again like if nothing had happened. “Let’s go then.”
Vincent blinked at the slight touch. She was being ... quite flirty.
He led the way upstairs, to the bare room and offered her a seat on the bed, since it was the only thing to sit on. He crouched not too far away, in a a way reminiscent of his older self.
"So ... How long have I been here ? And how did I meet you ?"
Rinoa followed him upstairs and then took a seat on the bed, wondering when he had had the time to get a new one. She crossed her legs and placed her hands on her knees ,looking back at him.
“I really don’t know how long you have been here. When I got here you were already around and we met during a festival ... it was quite an interesting meeting.”
Of course she could have said more but he hadn’t asked more than that and she wasn’t going to reveal more than was necessary.
Vincent nodded throughout her explanation, although he wasn't sure it made any kind of sense. But then, everyone had been giving him fantastic theories with the most serious face.
"And ... you mentioned we slept together at one point. How did that happen ?"
This time, he didn't blush. He couldn't remember it, and he wasn't sure it had actually happened, and anyway sex wasn't anything to be embarrassed about.
Damn it all to bloody hell, he just had to ask that right away and Rinoa wasn’t sure how she was going to respond to that since it was quite obvious that he had no idea of Chaos or how that got inside him, much less about her being a sorceress and Umbra. She needed another approach to that.
“Well, I was attacked by one of the fiends here and apparently was unconscious for a week. In that time you somehow retrieved me from my household to take care of me. When I woke up … well we discussed some stuff and next thing we decided it was a great idea to have sex.”
Rinoa kept quite a blank and relaxed expression. Part of what she had said was true but she had decided to leave Chaos, Umbra and the issue of her virginity out of this more beautified description of the event.
"Oh ..."
Vincent frowned, trying to factor all of that in.
"But then ... why don't I remember you ? Or being here ? I mean, I was on a mission, and suddenly I'm in the middle of a town that looks like the mako reactor blew up the place. And I lost my phone, too."
She didn't seem to bothered by the fact that she'd slept with him, nor with the fact that he didn't remember. This was what embarrassed him the most. He hadn't really had any long-lasting relationships, but the girls he'd slept with weren't looking for that either, and he'd never forgotten their names. There weren't that many of them, after all.
“What’s a mako reactor?”
That was quite a stupid question and even she had to admit it, but she was curious. There had been a lot of things in his world that had called her attention, mostly concerning the materia. She still couldn’t forget the reaction she had had when she had touched it and part of her still wanted to learn more about that. But first she needed to answer his questions.
“Well the fact that you don’t remember me or being here seems an effect of the event. Look at me for example : this is not how I normally look. This event made me older while it made you younger to a point in time where this mission you were in took place, so any memories of what happened after said mission, your future to the point you were brought here, could be blocked.”
Damn, Rinoa really was only really speculating here but it was the only reasonable thing she could come up with. There were others that had been turned younger and didn’t remember this place or the people they had met just like Vincent …
“May I ask … what kind of mission it was?”
The whole talk about growing older and younger was familiar from other people, but it was still confusing.
Now to explain what a Mako reactor was to someone who had never heard of it ...
"We use Mako reactors to pump energy from within our planet. It's dangerous, though, and if the reactors are not maintained properly, they can melt or explode, and do a whole lot of damage."
Vincent raised an eyebrow when she asked about his mission. The Turks were the Shinra investigative division. Their missions were kept secret even from most of the Shinra top brass, and they answered to President Shinra only.
On the other hand, this place was probably not even on his Planet, so there wasn't much harm in telling her.
"It was an assassination mission. We were closing in on the target when I ... found myself here."
A small frown came to her face when he explained to her what Mako reactors where and she really didn’t like that explanation
“Hmmm … if those things draw energy from the planet itself … won’t that eventually destroy your planet at some point ?”
It was a valid question. In her world the Centra had respected the planet they lived in and that was something that had been passed over to them. Not even Sorceress Adel would have tried to draw energy from the planet in a way that could endanger it like those Mako things seemed to do … they had other ways to get the energy instead of that.
“An assassination mission ? Do you do that a lot in your line of work ?”
Vincent frowned as Rinoa mentioned destroying the planet.
"I ... don't know. I'm not a scientist, so I am not sure how those things work."
She seemed interested in the mission too. And generally, in him. And he personally didn't mind that.
"Yeah, we often do that. Or recon, damage control, uncercover investigation, things like that."
Slowly she nodded, not wanting to know more about the Mako reactors. She wasn’t in that world but she didn’t needed to be much of a genius to know those things would bring more trouble than they were worth to the planet.
“Ahh … I see … back from where I come from it’s possible that one of your missions would have been to kill me in case the SeeD failed.”
Like always her mark as a sorceress came back, Rinoa really wouldn’t be surprised that in the case the SeeD did fail in eliminating her, they would turn to other methods like infiltration, going undercover and then kill her … Laguna after all had done something like that.
"Kill ... you ?"
He probably should have reacted more. Or looked more surprised. But the truth was, she did sort of have a dangerous aura about her.
He still couldn't think of any reason to kill her right now, but then, since when did he need a reason ? Someone up there told them to go on a mission and gave them objectives, and they fulfilled them.
"And back where I come from, it's possible I would have done it."
With a rather bored sigh she absentmindedly ran a hand on the fabric of her dress to smooth it, not that it was really needed at the current moment.
“Of course you would have and you still will because you have promised to kill me.”
Her voice was to o considering that they were talking about her death, but she had come to realize a long time ago that as a sorceress her only paths in life would be to die or not … so it was something that didn’t bother her anymore.
"I have ?"
Now that was somewhat surprising, and yet again not. There was an ... ease between them, like they could tell each other anything, even though he could not remember her. Some part of him obviously trusted her.
"Then I'll do it, if I promised. But I hope I remember you before I do."
Slowly she nodded. There was no need to speak to answer that when that simple movement was more than enough to answer the question.
“Hmm … you don’t need to remember me, Vince. The only thing you need to do is to kill me simple as that, remembering me or not doesn’t make a difference.”
It was strange really, despite all she still could feel that she could trust him and be brutally honest with him like she had just been, whether he remembered her or not wasn’t the point … the only point was that he’d kill her when the time asked for it.
"It's not that simple," the young man said, shaking his head. "You see, there are some times where I just take orders ... and there are others when I build my own mission. And ..."
He looked up and straight at her, as if he could see himself in her eyes.
"I don't know why, but I feel it's important that I remember why I should kill you when I do. It won't be the same if I don't."
Rinoa looked back at him, noticing in the moment that apparently the red was his natural eye color and not a result of Chaos or whatever that had gotten the entity inside him.
“I’m a sorceress … that means I can do magic naturally without being aided by … materia. However the downside of this is that I will turn evil at some point because that’s the fate of all the sorceresses that lack a knight.”
It was a very short explanation but it was basically her current situation. Sure, it was more complicated than that. “Is there anything else that you would like to know?”
It looked like her world was complicated too and had its share of problems.
"I don't know," Vincent answered to her question. "Is there anything I should know ?"
Well, there was the whole 'we slept together and I don't remember it, or you' thing, but she seemed to know why that had happened, and she wasn't upset about it, so that made him feel a bit less embarassed.
"What are we supposed to do now we can't get away from each other ? How long is it supposed to last ?"
He really hoped that it was just temporary. Not that he didn't enjoy the company, but people needed privacy some times.
“Well, there’s a lot, but you will remember eventually.”
That was a good question. What were they supposed to now? Rinoa looked at him for a few seconds and felt a slight shudder run down her spine. He was still very easy on the eyes and how she wanted to just … and next thing she knew she had apparently jumped Vincent and was looking down at him, obviously quite comfortably with being on top of him.
“Trust me … I can think of something for us to do.”
Hyne, this was so not her usual way to act, but who cared? Slowly she leaned down, hating her hair for an instant because it was too damn long but oversaw it the moment her lips were over his … it was bound to be a interesting day.
