Follow the Bugs!!

Summary: Milo meets up with Hige and they follow the bugs to find Kiba
Hige was annoyed. Kiba's advice about 'following the bugs' wasn't proving very helpful... and Hige wasn't even sure if he was following the right bugs because, well... he couldn't smell anything! Frustrated, he growled softly as he padded along in wolf form, his tail twitching in annoyance. Ears back, teeth bared, he definitely looked like an animal to avoid, even with the collar around his neck.
Milo was just kind was wandering around at the moment. He felt like he was blind because he couldn't tell if he had been somewhere before. He whimpered a bit, his PCD hanging around his neck. As he came around a corner, he spotted a familiar wolf. It was Hige...looking very angry at some bugs. ~Hige!~ he called.
Hige's ears perked slightly at the voice, and he picked his head up, looking around. After a moment, he spotted the other wolf. ~Hey, Milo,~ he said, sounding a bit down. ~What's doing?~
~I'm kinda lost~ Milo remarked. ~I can't smell anything at the moment. What about you?~
Hige sagged a bit. Any hope that Milo might have been able to tell him where the stupid bugs had been going now dashed, he sighed. ~Same, actually...~ he said and huffed a heavy sigh. He pawed at the dirt.
Milo gave a little wolf whimper. ~I don't like this event~
~Me, neither, kid,~ Hige said. ~Me, neither...~
~Why you looking at the bugs?~ Milo asked, looking down at the bugs now too.
~Kiba said to follow 'em... 'cuz, since I can't smell, I can't hunt,~ Hige explained, looking back down at them. ~Thing is... I dunno if I'm following the right bugs because, well... I. Can't. Smell.~ He growled again at Kiba's stupid advice.
~Oh...yeah~ Milo really couldn't hunt either for the same reason. ~Are there any other bugs?~
~I haven't seen any, yet...~ Hige said. ~So... I'm thinking that could be a good sign because it means there's only one trail of bugs to follow... but it could be bad... meaning that we're completely and totally off the trail.~
Milo bobbed his head in a nod. ~I haven't seen any other bug trails~
~So... I'm guessing I'll follow this one for a while... see where it goes. It's not like I've got anything else to go on.~ Hige grumbled.
~Mind if I come with you?~ Milo asked. Honestly, he'd rather be lost with someone than by himself.
~Sure,~ Hige said. ~I certainly don't mind the company.~ Hige was more of a pack wolf than Kiba was. He liked company.
Milo wagged his tail happily. ~Yay!~ was his response.
Hige chuckled slightly and started walking.
Milo followed after Hige. ~So who are we trying to find? Kiba?~
~Kiba... and the food he said was near him...~
~Oh...Food would be good...and finding Kiba.~
~Exactly.~ Hige glanced back, giving Milo the equivalent of a wolf smile before continuing.
Milo wagged his tail again, still following. ~What have you been doing... well before this event?~
~Getting by... staying out of trouble...~ Hige sighed. ~We had some really tough events there... the memory stuff... all that...~
Milo nodded. ~I kept hearing my pack back home~
~I heard Blue...~ Hige said quietly in a sad tone.
~Oh~
~I don't know how things would have turned out for the two of us... she was half-dog after all... but... still...~ He sighed.
~Ah~
~Sorry... you're still kinda young for that stuff...~ Hige said. He huffed slightly in frustration as he walked.
~Maybe a little~ Milo said, trotting a bit to keep up with Hige. ~But I heard stuff in the pack~
~I did care about her,~ Hige said. ~A lot.~
~Well, it's good you have someone that you care about~
~I guess... but she's not here...~
~Oh...~
Hige kept walking, his head, ears, and tail drooped slightly at the idea of never seeing Blue again.
~We'll go home~ Milo said cheerfully. ~I know we will...well not the same home...~
~You mean this accident that made this place will get fixed,~ Hige offered for clarification.
~Yep. That's it~ Milo said wagging his tail.
~I admire your optimism, kid,~ Hige said. ~Keep it up, okay?~
~Okay~ Milo replied. ~I will~
Hige nodded.
