avenue q
just got back from avenue q and supper with nigel, louise, their friend lyndis (hope i spelt that right!), mdm o and mr tan. and since this was its last night, there's no one left to spoil! so here goes:
the cast was great - it was really amazing how some of them were juggling multiple roles, and had to switch back and forth between different ways of speaking and (god forbid) singing. carla guevara-laforteza, who played kate monster and lucy the slut, gave an especially spectacular performance (plus she had the cutest ass). i never would have believed it, but when she sang the song there's a fine, fine line, i was pretty convinced puppets had feelings. i felt that she and felix rivera, who played princeton and rod, carried the show by giving it that little extra bit of emotional realism, putting avenue q a level up from being just "an adult version of sesame street".
oh, did i mention that felix rivera was also quite a looker? 8)
other things: trekkie monster is really cute, and has convinced me that the internet is indeed for porn. i could not always understand christmas eve (frenchie dy) because my japanese friends speak english more clearly than her. i could not always understand gary coleman either, because he (she, aiza seguerra) is from an era before mine, and sometimes slurs and speaks too quickly. the bad idea bears are a hilarious version of the devil sitting on your shoulder.
i just wish that the set could vary a little more, because throughout the entire show we were stuck with the same two-dimensional set. but i guess they managed to spruce it up a little bit with the cartoony television screens and the fancy lights. my favourite was the disco ball that masqueraded as a starry night.
on the whole, it was a good watch! but i would pay the same amount of money for another shot at queen : we will rock you, any time. i had a great night out, and am beginning to feel like i have a life beyond my hapless grades and friends re-runs. thank goodness for the people who drag me out and shower me with happy things~!
