we don't forget

after work yesterday, rachel and i had dinner together at le petite cuisine. not having had a proper chat in what seems to be two and a half years, we spent the entire evening catching up - until eventually i said, hey your house is closer to my work than mine is, can i crash? to which she and her family (and mine) were happily obliging. it was great.

we took a bus down to her place and i think i spent the entire night and morning just marvelling at the beauty of her estate and home. it's the kind of house that's truly a home that you could go home to and forget all your troubles and cares. it belongs in a magazine. it should be a hotel, with all its wonderful showers and plush carpets and square spotlights. seriously.

well against all better judgement (but hey we're still legally young and reckless) we stayed up until four am, trading ideas and hopes and dreams. it was nice to unwind and just talk (we don't do enough of that as it is). i stifle my laughter at her ernie (forever) and read excerpts of her diary from when she was eight, she has a drawer full of diaries it's amazing, and we compare notes on how our years went by.

time passes quickly, and by morning it's another rush to divergent places, but we had a good night that we won't forget too soon. and eventually, i guess we'll both just drift as we always do, to wherever our lives takes us - but some things will always stay the same. our uncanny friendship built by shared history, our eternal mutual envy, our day-and-night ways, well, it's all a very strange comfort, but one i'm happy for nonetheless.
