Book Spree!

Jun 04, 2009 19:49

I just ordered one-hundred dollars' worth of books and CDs online from Barnes & Noble (so much cooler than Borders) and didn't have to pay a cent. Yay! Gift certificates! My reputation amongst adults that know me as Super-nerd pays off!

It seems like ages since I last read real books simply for pleasure. I've been reading articles and stories online, but not real books that you can mark up, flip through, and carry around and I found that I really, really missed that.

Mum made me promise that I wouldn't read them until school let out. D: That's rich, coming from the woman who opens her Christmas gifts as soon as she gets them. I always save mine until the actual holiday so I have something to open. I used to feel really bad for my mum because she would have nothing to open on Christmas morn, so I hide my gift in ridiculous places so she has something to open on the actual day. But I digress. That package is going to be very hard not to open. ;__;

Here's what I've got to enjoy over the summer. Yes, yes, it's not the most intellectual of summer reading lists, but it looks fun:

Cat's Cradle, by Kurt Vonnegut

The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams
all five books in one! As much as I adore Douglas Adams, I've only read The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Life, the Universe, and Everything. *shame* >///<

The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman
I've heard about Neil Gaiman, but I've never read any of his books. I probably shouldn't be buying so many books from an author I haven't even read, but all of these sounded really promising.

Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders (P.S. Series), by Neil Gaiman

Coraline, by Neil Gaiman
--since I never got to see the movie.

Looking for Alaska, by John Green
I've recently subscribed to the vlogbrothers' channel (yes, I know I'm very, very, very late) but I've never read any of John Green's books! :O Well, that will change shortly. Not the type of book I usually read, so we shall see how this goes.

Salonen: Wing on Wing, etc. - Esa-Pekka Salonen (Do you italicize album titles?)
Foreign Bodies, Wing on Wing, and Insomnia

Esa-Pekka Salonen: L.A. Variations - Esa Pekka Salonen

Speak for Yourself - Imogen Heap

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I hope I'll be able to finish all of it by the end of summer. :3 I can't wait 'till the end of the school year!!
