Seasons

The rain is here today. I truly love the rain. The smell of the damp earth, the quietude of the neighborhood and the privacy of my covered back porch. Hot drinks taste so much better when its cold and rainy. I love the long dark days of homework and coffee. Maybe its a comforting association I have made. In the Willamette Valley, one learns to embrace the white overcast skies and continues rain showers as part of the experience of living in such a beautiful lush green place. Fall and winter are such cozy times. The bite of the cold outside is unpleasant yes, but the sensation reminds me that I'm alive and makes me appreciate the warmth of home so much more. The smell of these seasons are so much more sharp; woodsmoke and wet pine trees perfume the air, every house keeps It's windows and doors closed developing It's own unique scent which is less apparent in the summer when everything is open. I love the familiar smells of my grandparents house and forested yard when I stop to visit. I enter this fall season with happiness, excitement and comfort.
