COVID-19 Week 4(?)

Apr 13, 2020 21:24

So right now we are in the 4th(?) week of the recommended stay at home quarantine here in good old New York State. It's been a crazy time honestly. People are afraid of coughing and fevers like never before. EVERYTHING is closed! Malls, theaters, restaurants, bars, clubs, SCHOOLS, I mean everything. The only things that are open are Grocery Stores, Doctors Offices, Pharmacies, and those stores deemed essential.

I don't know anyone personally that has the virus *knock on wood* but everyone is worried about it. It's really bad in NYC but here, we're just waiting to see if things hit the fan or we do our job and "flatten the curve". As of this moment: 4/13/2020 @ 8:46pm we have 1,116 active cases in Erie County with the bulk of them being in the city of Buffalo. I mostly worry about my mom and dad, and of course my sister because she's pregnant and due in June. We worry that if we come out of quarantine too soon, there will be a second surge of cases and that it will be worse that the first wave and even more people will die or that it will mutate and effect a different group of people or hundreds of other scenarios we haven't thought of. I mean no one even thought of this let alone what could happen next.

There is no clue to when all this will end though every politician says "we think we're close to the peak" but they honestly have no idea. I mean we have no idea when we're going back to school. We had to go in last week to give out another month of work for the students. We had to set up Google Classrooms to try to get our students doing work online so we can potentially grade it but we don't know how that is going to work either. Half of our students are probably doing the work we sent home on paper and half of them are going to go online to do it. I bet 70-80% of them won't learn much. They have very little motivation when they're in school let alone if they have to teach it to themselves.

We're technically supposed to go back to school in 7 days (4/20/2020) but I HIGHLY doubt we're going to go back before May and probably not even before June. Personally, I think we're out for the rest of the year. Countries that have been on lock down for months longer than us are just NOW considering ending their lock downs only in stages. We aren't anywhere near that. We have the most number of cases thus far in the world. We have 581,679 cases in the US alone as of today. The next highest is Spain with 171,000 and then Italy with 159,500. In fact Spain and Italy just extended their lock downs AGAIN. Yeah, wake up America, we're not leaving our houses any time soon. Sorry.

OMG Just checked as of today, it is the start of the 5th week off from school. I can't believe any of this but we're getting through it.

Anyway, Mike and I are doing well. We're keeping ourselves occupied. We watch a lot of TV and play on our phones. I do school work and go to "meetings" on Google Meet during the week. We video chat with our family and friends a few times a week. I do puzzles or color or play Sims 4. I've made a few things out of origami. I want to try making a cloth mask but I have yet to do it. Mike goes on "quest" in his video game called Oblivion when I'm watching something he doesn't want to watch. When it's nice out we try to do things outside like straighten the garage, clean up the backyard (when it's not flooded from spring rain), wash/wax my car. I have yet to go rollerblading or for a walk but definitely once the weather starts staying nicer for longer. Right now we seem to be having one day every week or week and a half that is above 60 degrees. We'll get there. I have to keep reminding myself it's not even May.

Oh yeah, yesterday was Easter. It didn't feel like it at all because there was not family time. It was different for families that have kids and had to still be the Easter Bunny but not us. We all know how much my family is missing getting together. I know we'll have to make up for it big time once we can actually get together. Hopefully this summer!

Alright well I'm going to find something else to do. Same old, same old pretty much every day. Not that I'm complaining, I just miss my friends and family.
