Calling all Females!!! *Warning: I'm going to talk about Periods!*

Nov 24, 2008 22:05

I'm just warning you, this is a major RANT because I'm just so sick of this shit!!

Ok so ladies I need your honest opinion on this...

At the school I work at they've banned purses that were carried by the female students. Now before you get your panties in a bunch please listen to the administration/teacher's side of the story (AKA my view of the story as I completely agree with what's been done):

Backpacks have been banded for about 10 years now at school (since Columbine). Purses were usually fine to be carried by females so long as they didn't use them to carry books or any other school materials (thus making it a backpack). As of the past few years purses have been getting bigger. When I say bigger I mean BIG. There are a few girls whose "purses" are actually over the shoulder backpacks or tote bags (neither of which are actually purses). Others are actually purses that are really big (Yes I know that Jessica Simpson but some girls have purses that big). All of which were used to carry school related materials as well as SOME personals (pens, pencils, brushes, make-up, perfume, feminine products, food/drinks, etc.).

The reason we are getting rid of purses are for the following reasons:
1.) Limits the amount of texting going on in classes (don't say it doesn't happen because it does)
2.) If guys can't carry backpacks girls shouldn't be allow to carry bags which can be used as such.
3.) It's VERY easy to conceal things in bags that big (ie weapons).
4.) Limits the amount of distractions by girls digging for things in their purses, i.e. Make-up, mirrors, brushes, sprays, etc. and then putting it on DURING CLASS TIME (happens pretty much everyday in at least 2 class periods).
5.) It limits the amount of food and drinks that are brought in the classroom that are not allowed to be there.

Now I know what you're thinking... GIRLS NEED TO CARRY PURSES BECAUSE THEY GET THEIR PERIOD!!!!!

At least that's the only argument that the girls are using to fight this ridiculous/pointless fight.

Now I don't know about most girls but when I get my period usually I'm doing something else and CAN'T run to the bathroom to fix it right away(unless it happens 1st thing in the morning). Granted it usually isn't more than an hour after it happens (or sometimes I don't even realize it has happened) but I do eventually fix it (DUH!). When I'm at work, I don't stop teaching and go SORRY I JUST GOT MY PERIOD I'LL BE RIGHT BACK I NEED TO GO INSERT A TAMPON OR PUT ON A PAD! Parents would think I was wasting their child's class time. But yet it's OKAY for my female students to do that.

PLUS!! Girls should only be getting their periods once a month! And even then wouldn't have to change their pads/tampons more than once or twice during the school day so going to their locker

Now here are what some people have suggested instead of getting rid of purses all together:

Possible Solution 1: Regulate smaller purses Problem: What counts as a small purse? Whose to say that one person's purse is ok while another's is not?

Possible Solution 2: Give a definite size (i.e. 11 by 2 by 3 inches) Problem: Teachers DON'T have time to MEASURE how big a purse is. Plus if we measure and then let one person's pass we have to let them all pass.

ANYWAY HERE'S THE NEWS STORY...

I'm not here to argue the point I just want honest opinions. If you need clarification on anything let me know.

I'm just sooooooooooooo sick of this issue that I can't argue it anymore. I just want to know what some other people think...
