halcyonpoodle, fractalgeek, the Beast of Caterham (non-LJ) and I went to the Crossness Engines to watch the huge beam engine there being run. It took 18 years to restore the one machine, all done by volunteers. It set us to talking about what we might do when we retire or otherwise permanently leave the world of employment....
