Rainy Days are for Blogging

I sure would like to post updates more often but blogging just seems to take so much time. Maybe it's because I'm a slow typist or maybe it's because I'm just slow. Maybe it's because I will spend ten or fifteen minutes just trying to think of the first sentence to write. In any event, I keep putting it off, and putting it off until I come up with a long, meandering ramble that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. So here we go...

My first trip to Colorado this summer was a blast. Andrea and I brought her little girl, Zoe up to Vail for a couple nights stay in a way swanky hotel. It was beautiful but pricy, of course. We got a deal on the hotel from a cousin of Andrea's that works for Marriot, but we paid out the ass for everything else. It was worth it though. Perfect mountain springtime weather. Gettng around in Vail is a little weird, because it's beautiful and ultimately everything is pretty close, however, they try to put the highest amount of shops and souvenir stores between you and wherever you're going. So if something looks like it's only 100 feet away on the map that means that you have to walk a half mile through a Swiss style outdoor shopping mall. I bought a coffee mug. We also went up to Mount Evans for an afternoon of gasping for air and watching our lips turn blue. I got a few pictures, not of the blue lips, but of the mountains.

In other news, I have somewhat unexpectedly become a semi-professional photographer for a local magazine. Well, a couple of magazines put out by one publishing/marketing group. It started because they are doing a spread on my photography (the old houses and stuff) and when I was in their offices dropping off the images they asked if I wouldn't mind filling in for their staff photographer while she was on vacation. I said sure and they gave me a crap load of work. Then the photographer came back from her vacation and they still call me. So that's cool. It's fun. In fact, while I'm writing this, I just got a call to go take photos of some kid getting fitted for a hearing aide tomorrow. Sheesh. Nice. Anyway, here are some of my favorite ones that I've taken. Two are from the local theater's (which people in Enid really pronounce "thee-ATE-er" *shudder*) Shakespeare in the Park and the other is from a article profiling a couple of the city commissioners.

Then these car photos are from my first paying client. I was hired by the group that put on this car show to photograph the whole thing for them. That was fun too, but as I quickly found out, I charge way-way-way too little. It took so much time. But it was a positive experience nonetheless.

Well, I'm still working hard on the farm. I'm currently redoing the foundation on the house. Much like we did on the barn just on a much smaller scale. Progress is being made and one day soon I'll be done. Soon. I think I'm ready for it. I love the job, I really do, but I'm ready.

I'm leaving for Mexico next week, I am so excited about that. And the week after that I will be in Colorado Springs for a family reunion. I might be in Denver on Thursday the 24th. Maybe. I'll let you know.

Oh, baby.
