Stereotypes: Prologue

Prologue

Eight-year-old Kim Jaejoong sat by himself reading a book while the rest of his classmates ran around the playground together.  All the girls would play together and all the boys would play together.  Jaejoong did not fit in either group.  The boys said he was too pretty and delicate to play with them while the girls thought he was an icky boy and wouldn’t even talk to him.  The only time Jaejoong ever got any exercise on the playground was when one of his male classmates would chase him, trying to get a kiss.

He would complain to his mother everyday but she was no help to him.  Mrs. Kim would always say something like, “That Lee boy is quite handsome.  He’d make a good little boyfriend for you.”

Jaejoong would then get angry and tell his mother that he was a boy and boys cannot have boyfriends.

Life for an eighteen-year-old Jaejoong was not much easier.  He was still chased around by boys and girls were still not interested in him.  His mother also didn’t change and continued to think it was a better idea for Jaejoong to get himself a fine boyfriend and not a girlfriend.

Jaejoong hated that people stereotyped him.  Just because he was slightly prettier than other guys did not mean that he was gay.  He promised himself that he would prove his masculinity.

Unfortunately, proving his masculinity was harder than it seemed since Jaejoong liked to dress stylishly and immaculately.  He also liked to sing pop music and his dream was to join a pop band.  He also liked to cook and clean.  In fact, Jaejoong didn’t really like to do any of the normal masculine things so he decided to compensate for it in the only way he could think of…
