A question about modern personal hygiene

What is it about loofahs and these wads of cheesecloth used as sponges for the human body? On my last birthday, a friend gave me a tube of Bath & Body Works pink cherry blossom body wash. When I shower, I prefer a hard (as opposed to glycerin) bar of soap and a washcloth, but I like the scent I was given, so I thought I'd give it a try. Who knows? I might find something I like about it. I have to admit combining the wash with the cheesecloth wad gives a great lather, but it is really uncomfortable against those tender parts of the body. To avoid the scratching, you need to lather up the washcloth after all. I just as soon stick with the washcloth all along.

Why are these loofahs and cheesecloth wads so popular?

loofah, body wash, washcloth, bath & body works, personal hygiene, cherry blossom, soap, shower, lather, scent
