Yes, there is life even though the Leafs lost their playoff spot...

So yes, I did spend a lot of time watching hockey over the Easter weekend. The Leafs won their hotly contested game against the Habs on Saturday, beating them out for the final playoff spot, only to have it taken away from them on Sunday afternoon by the NY Islanders. It was a tough weekend to be a Leaf fan all right.*

Other than being disappointed by the Leafs yet again, and having to rely on the Red Wings (yet again) for my playoff hopes, there were some nice spots to the weekend as well. Jet was sick again, so I stayed home with him on Thursday. We got a few things done, played a lot and watched too much TV, which is basically what was needed. Good Friday was lovely as Graig's sister and her very sweet dog paid us a visit and stayed for dinner. While Jet's not afraid of dogs, neither does he really pay attention to them what so ever. I'm hoping at some point I can make him like them, 'cause at some point in his lifetime, you can bet that I will be getting a dog. Best fun of the day though was my bro bringing his cat upstairs to meet the dog, and Lex simply freaking out. We didn't see Lex at all the next day either. I know I shouldn't laugh, but really, Lex is such a rotten creature half the time, its kinda fun to see him put in his place now and then.

Saturday was the day for my family's Easter dinner (which is kinda a Easter dinner, but really more of a birthday dinner for one of my aunts) up at the Farm. Jet got WAY too much candy, but a good time was had by all, and it was great to watch the Leaf game on my uncle's really swanky, flat-screen, Hi-Def, plasma television. Well, when I could bring myself to watch it, that is. Stupid Leafs... Oh, also on Saturday, because we were actually in posession of a car for the day (borrowed 'my' car from my grandparents. I miss it.) we decided to go to the Great Canadian Superstore not far from my place for a heavy-duty grocery shop. The grocery stores closest to both my and Graig's respective homes are all Dominions. We've both come to dislike Dominions (Graig more vehemently than I) as the selection is generally crappy, anything that is on sale is always sold out, and the produce is pretty shitty. So it was with a happiness close to tears that we strolled leisurely down the aisles (Jet had been bribed with the promise of getting new cars so that he'd be semi-patient) revelling in the huge selection and all the President's Choice/PC Organic/Blue Menu items that I dearly love and miss. It was a spectacular shopping experience, and one that'll make going back to Dominion even worse now.**

Sunday, Jet awoke to discover the Easter bunny had indeed visited our house and left chocolate and toys for him (including the Spider-Man Mr. Potatohead, which is just awesome), which generally always puts him in a good mood. Eventually, he headed off to his dad's (so he could acquire more Easter stuff) and Graig and I went back to bed for awhile to rest up before the hockey extravaganza would start that afternoon. Stupid, stupid NJ Devils. Afterwards, we gorged ourselves silly on cheap Chinese food while watching the Amazing Race (damn Uchenna and Joyce, that was a pretty spectacular way to go out! I am firmly rooting for and a viewing of one of my father's favourite movies, Harold and Maude. Then it was pretty much time for bed, as we were both pretty much worn out from the hockey; him for rooting for his Islanders, me from having to cheer for the NJ Devils, a team I really cannot stand. Stupid, stupid Devils.

I'm already all wound up and playoffs haven't even started yet. Maybe it'll be for the best if the Wings don't go far. I need a rest all ready.

* Make no mistake though; it is ALWAYS tough to be a Leaf fan. Its been tough to be a Leaf fan since before I was born fer cripes sake. Thank goodness for the Chicago Blackhawks who hold the longer record for futility. Hmm, I guess there are always teams worse off than we are, but as I live in the Centre of the Universe, I'll always think we're hardest done by.

** Family story time... I wouldn't have a problem with Dominion at all if circumstances had played out differently, long ago. Y'see, the man who started the Dominion chain of grocery stores approached my great-grandfather (who was a well-known butcher in Etobicoke) in the mid 1920s, asking if he would like to join in on this little business venture idea he had, a store where customers could get all their food at once instead of having to go to the grocer's, butcher's etc. My great-grandfather didn't think it would fly, and so refused. No fortune for my family, lol.

amazing race, hockey, family, easter, shopping
