It's a beautiful day out there today. Unseasonably warm perhaps, but damn I'll take it. Of course, I'm going to have to be careful not to get overheated (and y'know, pass out), but I'm armed with a water bottle and a TTC pass, so I should be all right.
But... (and you just knew there was going to be a but, didn't you?), the warm weather also exposes one of my biggest pet peeves. Those who wear socks with sandals.
I have no idea why I hate the socks n' sandals 'asthetic' so much, but I do. I loathe it. To me it is a look that just says "I've given up"* And I think it annoys me to no end in that it defeats the purpose of wearing the footwear you have chosen to wear. I don't want to see your slovenly socks (so often with holes in them) through your sandals, and if your feet are cold enough that you need to wear socks with your sandals, then put on a freaking pair of shoes!
I know people are more likely to wear socks and sandals during spring/fall than the summer months, but I guess it just becomes more noticeable to me now because they're now paired with shorts and so it's even worse because the pants aren't hiding it and I have to see the slouchy socks/sandal combination.
Believe me, I'm not a fashion maven or anything like that, but I also don't think I do too badly. I will even confess to having done the sandal/sock thing a couple of times, but only when camping. I can't lug all my footwear out into the back country, so options are limited, but I realized the entire time I did was wearing them around the campsite I just HATED it. I hated how it looked, I hated how dirty my socks got and I hated how my feet kinda slipped around in my sandals because of the socks. If it's cold enough out when camping that I can't just wear sandals, I'm keeping my boots on thanks.
Wish others'd do the same...
* Other looks that I believe means you've given up? Wearing track pants out of the house. The 'mom' yoga uniform when you're not actually doing yoga. Crocks. Ugg boots (although this may just be because I hate hearing teenagers shuffle when they wear them. I'm old and cranky, I know). 3/4 length tights not worn under a skirt or anything (still don't like 'em under a skirt either, but on their own, just ewww).
