I'm not sure where I first heard the term
babymoon but it immediately struck me as A) not a bad idea and B) a name that really grates on my nerves somehow.
An ex-co-worker of mine from way back when did something like this (long before they'd come up with a cutesy moniker for the idea) before her first baby came along and that's when I thought it wasn't a bad idea. She and her husband toured around Europe for a couple of weeks, and overall, she had a nice time. But I also realized an extended trip away from home while pregnant wasn't something I wanted to do, nor would feel right about doing. A) I know I'd freak myself out the entire time I was away with 'What If' scenarios. B) I'd feel guilty spending the money knowing that soon, money was going to be tighter. C) The general... uncomfyness that begins with the latter-stages of pregnancy may get in the way of doing all the things you'd like to do. And in fact, this third point was something that my ex-co-worker ran into whilst she was away.
But, this doesn't mean that there are not things that I want to do before we're not able to do them anymore come July. And I've been REALLY fortunate in that some of my favourite acts/things are being terribly obliging and are rolling through Toronto before little miss communion alien makes her appearance. So without further adieu, the Things We're Doing Before Doing Them Becomes Much Harder List:
April 21, 2009 - Flight of the Conchords at Massey Hall
May 11, 2009 - Tragically Hip at Massey Hall
May 25, 2009 - Macbeth at Stratford, Ontario
There may be more things added to the list of course, but right now, I'm already terribly pleased with all three outings :)
