It was a pretty dismal summer at the Kent household when it came to exercise, in that we hardly did any. Various ailments, from my bad back disaster at the beginning of the summer to Graig's lung infection, to my now seeming lung infection, well, we just weren't able to participate in exercise the way we wanted and now we both feel out of shape and fat. (yeah, I know we're not, but we're also not where we should be either).
We did start to remedy this a little bit during the summer, once my back healed by playing badminton in the back yard and whatnot, but it's not really been until the past couple of weeks that we decided to make a cognisent push to get back on the exercise track. This is what we've come up with:
- For as long as weather permits, we're going to play tennis on Sundays. We may switch this to skating once the weather turns good and cold.
- On Mondays, and lasting throughout the year, we'll go swimming on our lunch hour. Fortunately theirs an indoor pool a 5 min. walk from work. Also on Monday evenings, might do the skating thing again in the winter.
- I signed up for tennis lessons for the next 10 weeks on Tuesdays. It's been a looong time since I played tennis regularly. I used to be pretty damn good, but I'm not any more. Oh, my ground strokes are still ok, but my serve sucks, so what the hey, a little instruction never hurt anyone.
- Once again, weather permitting, we'll fit some combination of bike riding to and from work over a couple a days a week.
- Thursdays at lunch we're back in the pool.
We're pretty happy with this overall. Even though I still sound like I'm hacking up a lung, we recognized the need to just get active again. We've been playing badminton in the backyard and hitting the tennis courts a couple of times a week already. We also started the swimming regime this week and rode our bikes into work.
It all feels good :)
