Tomorrow's July 1st, which means we're about half way through summer blockbuster season, and as mentioned
here , it has been a pretty busy movie-going summer. So, where are we on this list and what is still to come?
Seen it
Iron Man - Loved it.
Prince Caspian- T'was ok.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Very disappointed.
WALL*E- Saw this on Saturday with Graig and Jet, and just loved it. The first... half hour of the film is just so quiet as Wall-e goes about his business, cleaning up the abandoned Earth. It was so well done that it ALMOST triggered my post-apocalyptic-phobia, but didn't, as they made Wall-e himself so engaging. Afterwards, we talked quite a bit with Jet about what we 'learned' from the film because honestly, there was a heck of a lot to take away from it. Well done again Pixar, well done.
Stuff I've seen that wasn't on the original list
Kung Fu Panda - A lot of fun and probably the movie Jet's seen in the theatre that he's enjoyed the most.
Get Smart - Also a whole lot of fun. I was never a fan of the original show, but Steve Carell is perfectly cast, they took the absolute perfect 'tone' for the movie, and the set action pieces were very well done.
Wanted- Saw this one yesterday. Yup, a relentlessly silly, over the top action movie that played out like a good game of Feng Shui and I just loved it. They also spared us from all the crappola that was in the original graphic novel, and bless them for that. This also made me want to up my character's driving skill in Feng Shui 'cause DAMN they do some cool (and totally improbable) things with cars in this movie.
Stuff Still to See
Hulk - Yeah, don't know why we've been dragging our heels on this one, but we have...
Dark Knight- Oh oh oh I cannot WAIT for this...
Pineapple Express - Yeah, looking greatly forward to this one as well.
Hellboy II- I'm kinda... ehn on this one. I barely remember the first one (although I know I saw it), and I'm not really a fan of the comics, but husband is ALL over seeing this, and I got slightly more interested in it when I was told it looks like Faerie figure prominently in it.
*Addendum* - (my husband pointed out I should mention these...) Stuff I'm *slightly* curious to see or feel like I should see 'cause there are people I like in it and Yetis or because its Star Wars and I'm weak...
Hancock - I'm waiting to see what reviews are like for this tale of superhero disenchantment that comes out tomorrow. I don't have high hopes for it, but I admit, my love for good superhero-caused destruction goes a long way...
The Mummy - The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor - As Graig mentioned, neither of us gave a flip about a Mummy movie... till we realized Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh were in this. Sigh. Graig adores Michelle Yeoh (hell, so do I), and need we mention who I named my son after? Oh, and there's a Yeti in this (we also both have this bizarre fascination for Yetis, his stemming from Big Foot, mine coming from the Abomminabble Snowman from Looney Tunes). Problem is though... It's a Mummy movie. I have, for some reason, seen the other two, and I do have a fondness for Brendan Fraser (not sure why as I refuse to see a lot of the dreck he's in), and, thanks to these movies I learned how to say "Ziyadah" properly (my Enforcers players know why that's important), but can I sit through a Mummy movie in the theatre? I just don't know...
Star Wars: The Clone Wars As most know, I was left VERY disatisfied by Revenge of the Sith (no love, we're NOT debating it again ;) ). Genndy Tartakovsky's wonderful version of the
Clone Wars helped prove that all was not lost for me in the Star Wars universe, but this new thing... I'm back to worrying that I won't like it. I'm not fond of the animation and frankly, Tartakovsky's version was so well done that I'm really not sure there's a need for another 'Clone Wars'... Yeah, we'll see what the reviews are like...
Movies my husband wants to see but I have ZERO desire to see
X-Files: I Want to BelieveOr rather, I Can't Believe They're Bothering to Make Another Movie... Yeah, I'm totally not sharing Graig's anticipation in seeing this because I gave up on the X-Files a very, very long time ago and I know that there's really nothing they can do to rekindle my interest in it.
