If you're a fan of the Detroit Red Wings.
They won the Stanley Cup last night, and it was wonderful.
The Pengs didn't go down easily though, scoring (again!) during the last minute of play on a 6-4 powerplay/pulled the goalie combination. It was a sickening moment, with replays of Game 5 going through all our heads, but they had a two goal lead at that point, so that pulled the Pengs within one. There was another scary moment at .01 seconds left to go as Marian Hossa rolled the puck through the crease, but it didn't go in, the clock ran down and there was a moment of silence as the Wings figured out that they had indeed won and the celebration began.
Zetterberg deservedly won the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP. His two way play was simply phenomenal. He had two points in this game and made his usual fantastic defensive plays. He's a keeper.
The Stanley Cup was presented to Nick Lidstrom, the first, non-North American born Captain to win a Stanley Cup. And yes, this is significant as there's long been this belief that to win a Stanley Cup, you need to have a lot of Canadians and not many Europeans to win. Well, Detroit just proved that theory a load of horse hockey as they won with a lot of Europeans. My Dad's dubbed them 'Team Sweden' as there are 5 Swedish born players, and all of them are pretty tough customers. The Red Wings that won this Cup are a wonderfully international bunch.
It's all good, and I leave you with this picture of a bunch of very, very happy boys:
