Holy crap. This ep was beautiful, heartbreaking, brilliantly acted, and has utterly destroyed everything (IMO) this show started as. I was spoiled for the big line, but Colin's delivery made me cry. Actually cry

Hello! Nice to hear from you! I don't know how to do the italics for quoting, so I'll do it this way:
....I always feel that Merlin is a good person and doesn't want to hurt people. Unless it involes Arthur. If Arthur is even a tiny bit at risk, or Arthur is at risk of finding out about Merlin’s secret, then he won’t even think twice about killing someone. He won’t relish doing it, but he’ll justify it and not look back. Arthur is completely his weakness, and his weakness may be the downfall for both of them.....
I agree. What I found different was Merlin flat out telling Gaius he will not even consider saving Mordred. Voicing that sentiment. Being cold-blooded and letting someone see it. Especially someone as dear to him as Gaius.
.....I actually feel the opposite. I think this scene worked better as a non-reveal, than it every would have as a reveal. For me, it was too obvious a situation for a reveal. Secrets never come out at an opportune moment, they come out when you let your guard down, when you’re not paying attention. That’s what I want. That’s when I want it to happen, when Merlin isn’t in control of it. That being said, I totally agree with you; I want a huge, epic reveal with a major fallout. I don’t think the the style of scene is necessarily relevant. I think it could be in a huge action scene, or it could be in a quiet scene like this one. I just want it to happen when Merlin’s not ready for it......
When you say Merlin not having control over when it happens, not ready for it, how do you mean? That the situation is out of control or Merlin's magic is out of control? That Merlin is doing magic and Arthur accidentally sees? Gaad how I want a reveal and major angst. Can't you just see it? How fabulous B/C would play it? We could have what Colin gave us at the fireside 100 fold, along with Bradley's anger and betrayal, looking lost and broken and then angry again. I must be a masochist. Geez.
It's funny what you say about Arthur being more honest with Merlin than Merlin is with Arthur. I saw the chasm of their relationship the most clear at the end of "The Wicked Day". Arthur leaves the room where his father is; Merlin's outside. Arthur tells Merlin he's a loyal friend. You can see on Merlin's face that he's farther away from Arthur emotionally more than ever. That scene really struck me. The lighting was beautiful, but it was Merlin's face that showed me how far apart they really were.
My personal opinion of how Colin is playing Merlin's constant frustration is a sign he will break. Oh, is that the 'isn't in control' you mean? That WOULD be epic and huge!! Gah! All these amazing possibilities.
.....Arthur always recognises when Merlin is unhappy and is open to him talking to him about it. He doesn’t like to see him sad.....
It's rather sweet. Arthur seems more in tune with Merlin's emotions this season/series. Hasn't he, in every ep this year, asked Merlin "What is wrong with you today?" or something along those lines?
My sister had a horrible thought. She thinks the reveal will be Mordred's and his story and Merlin will basically be cast aside and left to rot. When she told me that, I was stunned and then horrified. Would TPTB actually rob Merlin the character of his reveal (and by extension, THE FANS) and be super please with themselves that they gave us a bone to chew on? Frankly, I'd rather have no reveal than have that.
We shall see. I'd like to say it's early days yet, but really, the clock is ticking.
"When you say Merlin not having control over when it happens, not ready for it, how do you mean? That the situation is out of control or Merlin's magic is out of control? That Merlin is doing magic and Arthur accidentally sees?"
Yeah, I think I'd like it in an accidental way, rather than Merlin choosing the time to tell Arthur or feelng he has to use it in front of him. To have it revealed for him or for Arthur to accidently see, will be Merlin's worst nightmare. He's always so set in his ways about having control, but in the end it always turns out that because he was so focused on just one strategy, he failed to see the problems of it or other repercussions. His moral compass has wavered more and more over the years. He has always made bad impulsive choice that can overcome him.I just think that one of these times he's gonna be so focused on helping Arthur, that he's going to forget to bring his guard up. But as long as it's epic in it's aftermath, I'm not too picky!
I must be a masochist too, because I want as much angst and anger as they can fit in!
Yeh The WickedDay is a really good example for alot of aspects of their characters an relationship actually. Like you said, that scene at the end of the episode brilliantly symbolised it. For better or worse, Merlin was hugely responsible for bringing Arthur to that moment, and that cut deep for Merlin. Arthur was oblivious to this though; he just saw a loyal friend. There is a huge gap between them at that moment, even though they are closer than ever.
Ha! Can you imagine the riot if the reveal is Mordred? I actually did think of that in a way, and maybe that it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. Only because of the emotional turmoil it would put Merlin through though. There is something so heartbreaking of Arthur accepting Mordred's magic and using him, and have Merlin sitting by and watching it. I don't want them to do it, but I think it's quite a dark idea.
