The STORM Will Always be THERE!
I know, I don’t write about ARASHI a lot, whether if it’s exciting news about their activities or just plain praising (praising is a whole “mature” way of “flailing”). I really am past my prime as an Arashi fan after all.
Sometime last weekend, there was another Arashi Trending Topic going on regarding the finale of one of Arashi’s long-running TV series, Arashi no Shukudai-kun (Arashi’s Homework). Though I rarely (more like never) bother with these trending topic projects because the activity isn’t even in a convenient time zone for me, I think it’s good to have these types of projects overall. There are at times though where I feel that these types of projects are just way too much and simply overrated, however, the only reason why I mentioned the latter is because of some of the actual Tweets that some people write that came along with the hashtag.
I’m not just directing this towards Twitter users but also the people who frequently post in LJs and VOX blogs. Knowing from my days as an active fan for around 8 years now, Arashi will always have a brand-new TV show constantly. During the (C/D/G) no Arashi and Mago Mago Arashi days, the shows used to last only a year or two. Only reason being why they’re ending was because there were new ideas that can be aired on TV that it needed to have a different new show rather than adding these new ideas in to a currently existing (and successful) TV show. I guess you can say for me, having a brand-new show while ending the current has always been routine TV work for Arashi.
And then, the reactions of these Arashi fangirls all around Twitter, LJ, VOX, etc. etc. I’m having a hard time understanding why so many of them burst in to tears or get in grief mode for the finale of Arashi no Shukudai-kun. Some of the reactions that these fangirls wrote in their Twitter/LJ/VOX made it sound like the dudes just died. If you ask me, they might as well die from being overworked, overstressed, and overwhelmed. They’re already holding three shows on TV, plus they got their own separate projects such as dramas and movie shootings. Let’s not forget their recording sessions for new/future singles too. If you ask me, it’s best they end one of the shows in order to host another brand-new one and this I think is a good move.
What could have been a better choice than the long-running Arashi no Shukudai-kun? If I can recall, this show has been running since 2006 or 2007 (around the time I went on fandom hiatus) and like many of their past TV shows, another successful moneymaker. Also, now that I thought of it, it also wouldn’t make any sense to have one TV network (NTV) handle two shows hosted by the same people. That would be like having a monopoly that NTV owns Arashi too, and in the TV industry, could be a bad thing.
I have no clue what VS Arashi or Himitsu no Arashi-chan (Secret Storm) is about, but I’m pretty sure they’re different formats of variety shows that just happen to be hosted by Arashi. This new upcoming show, the unscripted Arashi ni Shiyagare, is yet another brand-new idea for yet another TV show. Though it’s a lot more efficient to just introduce these brand-new ideas in to new segments in an existing show, regular viewers would start to think something like “WTF are these producers doing adding something unrelated to the show?” etc. etc. that the producers decided to make this alternative move.
And girls, especially and more specifically the always whining Arashi fangirls out there, don’t you think you’re being a bit selfish with that kind of reaction just because a long-running show such as Arashi no Shukudai-kun decided to end in place of this new show? Give the stormy dudes a break! It’s bad enough they only get to have a decent sleep for two hours a week (that’s right- A WEEK- and that’s not an exaggerated figure either… it’s in the magazine interviews!), but to overwork them some more with the new show being a fourth show?!
Are you all insane nuts or something? I know how enjoyable these TV shows are but let’s get real here and realize that humans are not a super-race where they can whitstand daily exhaustion 24/7/365.
We all know by fact that nothing lasts forever. We all have our lives to end one day in the future, one way or the other. That also includes entertainment from TV shows to the careers of entertainers. Sure, Arashi no Shukudai-kun may no longer be on air, but Arashi is still around, right?
So, girls, stop (fake) crying, please! The show has to end somehow, somewhere, and sometime. Instead of crying and shedding countless (fake) tears, why not celebrate their accomplishments for once? Hosting a TV show that lasted for more than a year is definitely an accomplishment. Other than SMAP, KinKi Kids, and V6, Arashi have finally made that mark with more-than-a-year TV shows, right? (I think that’s about right)
So, dry your eyes of your (fake) tears for the finale like your life depended on it. Save those (fake) tears for something a lot more heartbreaking than just a finale of the show. The STORM is still here with us and will always be THERE.
I personally would like to see more Aiba-style YAYS! than the (fake) sobs being flooded throughout Twitter, LJ, VOX, Facebook, etc. etc., especially with finales like this. I just hope they know how to use it and not overdo it. :r0ll:
P.S. - I wasn’t kidding when I included (fake) in some of the statements. Let’s just face it. You’re not really crying. You only do so the rest of the fandom gives you attention and “join in the mourning.” Come on now…
