Disclaimer: George Weasley and any other HP characters are the property of JK Rowling. I don’t own them. I only wish to play with them, for a little while (okay, so I’d like to play with Fred and George a lot, but can you blame me?). Eve Blackmore, her family, etc are the product of my brain. Some may remember her from
Haunted Chambers. In fact, I’ve kept much of her background from HC, with only minor tweaks here and there (though she would probably argue the term “minor”, in some instances, but she’ll go along with them, like the good little warrior she is…)
Summary: In the five years after the war… One struggles to find his place in a world that’s no longer funny. The other struggles with her own actions, during the battles. Two who were once close must find their way back to each other…
It was hard, at first, to take the Master’s advice to heart. Eve had done little to break her routine, in the past five years. Her life had become one of continual meditation and practice.
However, as, what the Japanese refer to as “Golden Week” wore on, Eve found herself drawn more frequently away from her mountain hut and down into the cities below. She even, upon looking through what few clothes she had, did something she hadn’t done in years - she went shopping, picking out a nice kimono that she could wear to Obon, this year, as well as new robes and gis, for every-day wear.
Still, the more she attempted to relax, the more that nagging in the back of Eve’s mind… nagged, for lack of a better word. As much as she tried to meditate on it, she was unable to find the source of the feeling.
So Eve went on with life - went on with living, as her Master… Masters advised. Toma-Sensei not only had spoken with the chief instructor of her Aikido dojo, he’d agreed with the old man that Eve needed time away, to live for a while.
Barred from most of her disciplines, she attempted to focus more on meditation, but was unable to do so. Eventually, she fell back on archery and horseback riding, throwing much of her energy into perfecting her ability to use the Japanese long bow, while riding and taking long rides through the Japanese countryside.
When she wasn’t practicing, she would take day trips to various places she’d been to with her father. She made pilgrimages to various Buddhist and Shinto temples, all over the country. Eve even started going to the beach, as the weather began to warm. Still, she found that she couldn’t fully relax into life without practice and meditation. She would often fall into practicing katas on the beach, or meditating under a tree she’d come across.
Months passed and soon Obon was upon Japan. Eve was asked to participate, in a parade of Japanese swordsmen, by her archery instructor. Eve returned to her hut and unpacked a suit of blue/black samurai armor, that had been in her family for generations. The armor was slightly too large and falling apart. But, after some magical and Muggle alterations, the armor was made to fit Eve, as if it had been made specifically for her.
The parade, on the first day of Obon, wound through a small suburb of Tokyo and out into the field surrounding a local temple. Bringing up the rear of the parade, the samurai rode proudly, in full armor, masks lowered, for display.
The samurai rode through the gates and up the stairs, to the temple, to signify the opening of the festivities. Once the parade, Eve thanked her instructor, then returned to her hut, to set out lanterns, on honor of her departed relatives.
