Over the years, Adriana had perfected her avoidance of those suitors she did not agree with. Namely, those blokes who were old enough to be her father. Constant awareness of the surroundings and not staying in one spot for too long. It was an art form, really.

She would definitely only agree that she looked smashing this evening. It was one she had picked out just that summer, a sleek fitted black gown with touches of emerald green that shined when certain light hit it just right. It was stunning, and she had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to show it off. Adriana Winters did not lack in self-confidence, that was for certain.

Jaser, in turn, looked quite handsome himself. Adriana naturally took notice of this, and it was a similar story for him - he always looked good. Blond hair and blue eyes, which Adriana seemed to have an affinity for. With the addition of a snazzy suit and a nice air of grace and confidence? Definite potential for her type.

She wasn't so particular about going overboard with the niceties, and seeing as her friendship with Jaser was far from casual, it was always amusing to Adriana to see him act so proper. Her eyebrow quirked, turning to look at him as he took her hand, not able to hide her smirk completely.

"Perhaps," she responded casually, taking one more sip of her drink before setting it down onto the counter. Cocking her head to the side, as though thinking it over. Moving, then, Adriana turned from the bar, facing Jaser with a polite smile. "I suppose, if simple is all that is available."

Oh, there was always plenty of time for jokes and sarcasm. The night was still young.

Jaser Cross had been a suitor for Adriana Winters since the day he was born. Fortunately for him, his charms could affect her. They had become aqauinted at parties such as the one they were at now, grew into friends turning their long terms at Hogwarts together, then just grew to be a little more than friends and taking the liberty of each other's company when it was needed. Their relationship had been rather peaceful, and it still was, even with that complication that was added recently into the mix between them to seperate the two of them a bit. No matter. It could be easily handled, and she would be all his own again.

A perfect time indeed. It was a fabulous dress, mostly because it was Adriana who was the one in it.

Though it wasn't just a normal relationship between the two of them, it was an act of curteosy and respect that Jaser always had acted this way around her, or any other woman for that matter, at least for some of them until he found they could not sway his interest in their favor. It had all been the type of way he had been raised. Mostly, his father taught him that.

He stepped back and with his hand still around hers, he pulled her from her seat, "Sometimes the most simple is the best kind Adriana."

Oh, Adriana was well aware that Jaser could be considered a 'suitor' for her, or even Tatiana, Merlin forbid. She was graduation Hogwarts in the new year, and with that brought it the determination for her father to marry her off to some. Adriana's mother had a close relationship with the Cross' and always had a keen liking on Jaser, though it was a different story for her father. It seemed that Joseph Winters' main concern was to make his daughter thoroughly unhappy by singling out only the males that were at least twice her age.

Regardless of who the bloke was, however, Adriana did not, and would not ever, want to get married. It was as simple as that. Nothing could possibly sway her into thinking that being tied down to one sodding old fogey and sitting at home twiddling your thumbs for the rest of one's life was something she was interested in.

Hopefully, Adriana would find something to hold off a ruddy engagement. Forever. If at all possible.

"I'm afraid you'd have to do quite a bit of convincing for me to believe that statement, Mr. Cross," she replied in a light sigh, standing and moving to the middle section of the dance floor with Jaser.

Slipping her hand from Jaser's grip once she stopped, Adriana twirled around to face him, holding both arms out in the ready position for them to start dancing. It did help to be taught the proper ballroom dancing since you were eight.

About being a possible fiance for Adriana, that would be no idea of Jaser's, especially if he were even thought as such by her parents. Not as to say that he wouldn't gladly accept the offer to marry her. Then again he wasn't one for long relationships because they would just end up being shorter than they were planned to be, which was a main reason why Jaser enjoyed Adriana's company. She allowed him a sweet taste of companionship without prohibiting his free spirit to run wild.

He actually wouldn't mind being married someday, but at the moment, he wasn't exactly sending out invitations to a wedding to the girl he hadn't even really found yet.

Jaser tilted his head with a grin on his lips, "Don't trust my skill do you Adriana?" He was just as good as she was. Just like his father he had a natural affinity for dancing, but he also had had lessons since he was 8. He outstretched his hand and took a few steps closer to her.

"Waltz?"

While she had no major objections against Jaser, it wouldn't matter who the fiance would be - Adriana was not getting engaged and married! End of story.

She, too, enjoyed the lack of strings involved with not being in an actual relationship. Really, what was better than snogs with cute people every so often? And eventually shags, of course, but Adriana wasn't concerned with that just yet. She had no intention to become Dari Davison, thank you.

"I don't really have anything to put my trust in, now do I?" she replied simply, taking his hand and moving hers to the proper places, starting to Waltz along with the other dance couples in the ballroom. Adriana had really never danced a formal kind of dance with Jaser previous to his request this evening, not that she really doubted his dancing ability.

"You shall have to shun away any doubts," she remarked after a few moments, looking to Jaser with a light smile, eyebrows quirking with intrigue. "Up to the challenge?"

To somewhat of his own dismay, he did not know if he could be her future husband. There was no plan that he knew of that included the two of them together. He was sure his parents would have told him if there was. Jaser would have really liked to know that just one day he would be calling Adriana Winters his bride.

Dari Davison propositioned him once even. He couldn't really blame her, and she was rather beautiful. But with the stories going around with Jeremy and even an auror by the name of Dorian Grace, he would have rather not. Adriana had too much class to become a Dari, and a much better snog. Jeremy even admitted it to Jaser once when he had been in a rage with Dari over something, like he cared or bothered to pay attention about his pathetic relationship problems.

"Perhaps we're mistaking lack of trust for underestimation," watching her as they moved around the room gracefully. Jaser pulled her in a little more closely than the dance really allowed. He ran his hand low on her waist with his fingertips somewhat touching on her hind quarters.

He stopped and dipped Adriana lowly, with his hand sliding down her back and up the bottom of her thigh, and clenching it a bit. Jaser smirked, "Challenges are what I live for Adriana, as you should know."

There was little doubt in Adriana's mind that Jaser would eventually get married. He just... seemed to be that kind of man, willing to commit to one woman who would take care of his home and general affairs while he worked. The exact person Adriana wasn't, that is.

Ha! Who didn't Dari Davison proposition? If it remotely even looked to resemble a male, she probably tried her hand at the chance for a snog or a shag. Besides, Jaser was handsome, no doubt there.

And what was this? Jeremy telling his dormmate that she was a better snog overall? Ha! Now there was something Adriana would like to hear. Not that she didn't know this - it was an obvious fact - but her ego wouldn't mind hearing that out loud. Repeatedly.

"Hmm," Adriana simply mumbled, as if not entirely sure about Jaser's statement. She sighed, glancing around the ballroom as they moved around. She sent a smile towards a few people she knew as they were spotted. Dancing closer than usual wasn't anything out of the ordinary for Adriana and Jaser. There was a many a time, she recalled, when they used to purposely do it just to tick the older people off.

Adriana allowed Jaser to dip her, leaning back and putting most of her weight onto his arm. "Good," she remarked with a devious smile, looking up at him with a cocked eyebrow. "You only live once, after all."
