Ahh, it did get better.
I struggle with Measure Theory, usually the same question for over a week, and it's a lot simpler than it looks. Interchange of dx and dy in double integrals? Excellent! It makes it so much easier - I have to remember the lecturer isn't so much into Maths Methods. Even he said it was hard.
Fire Emblem; I got onto Chapter 13 or so today. Now, the first ten chapters seems to be a kind of tutorial, and I sincerely hope that the extremely-cliche-plot/characters was deliberate. Lyn was alright, though she somehow found it extremely difficult to understand why Lungdred was poisoning her dad. For goodness' sake, this is the guy who's sent a gazillion soldiers to kill you (most of which can be killed in one hit). Also, Lungdred was pathetically easy once you had Wallace.
Oh, Wallace. I love him. I know what I should do. I should play the ENTIRE of that final chapter against Lungdred with nobody but Wallace. Nobody will be able to hurt him, and it'll be one-hit kills all along the way. Seriously.
Other characters there...Sain is a sissy, the other knight with him whose name I've forgotten was pretty standard, the Pegasus Knight was pathetically weak but she could actually do a bit of damage once you levelled her up a bit, even if she had the familiar cliche-anime of weak-defenceless-girl-who-keeps-stuttering and thus makes me vomit everytime she speaks. APART from that, all good.
Serra and Erk, I did like a lot. Dorcas, good. Matthew? If there weren't any doors around to open, he was bloody useless. Rath was a favourite of mine (although the first time his bow broke, but this time I had the sense to get him a new one beforehand). Who else was there?...Ah yes, Nils. I barely used him at all. All he does is give one of your characters an extra go. And the whatshisname, guy with long blonde hair?...Lucius or something. He just appeared randomly for NO REASON. He really isn't needed either, and he's practically identical to Erk only he seemed to have walked out of the pub and joined my party randomly. He's cool, but quite unnecessary.
Oh yeah, there was Wil, which I did like. Maybe I should get him to shoot that irritating Pegasus Knight, seeing as she's so terrified of archers.
Besides, all that was just the first ten chapters! The bit I'm on now (which I hope is an ongoing bit, not just something that stops within a few hours or so) has Eliwood and a load of other knights with him. And a hot archer, which I just killed on account of her health being crap. All in all, the current storyline is pretty decent, the characters are good, and the game is actually becoming worthwhile. Contrary to Lyn and Sain and whatshisname-knight, where the three of them looked like a bunch of high-school kids who were gossiping in the corridor. Stupid fanart. It's not even fanart.
There's this weapon pattern in the game - swords over axes, axes over lances, lances over swords, etc. And I don't buy that at all. Firstly, although such a relationship sounds likely, there are many other weapons in the world which aren't swords, axes or lances. Where are daggers supposed to go? Would they go under "swords" category? A midget with a dagger is supposed to overpower Psycopathic Johnny with his axe?....Naaah. Also, Fire Emblem seems like Feda, only not as badly translated, and with more old-school graphics. And yet I still prefer Feda.
It also seems a little too easy. Yes, though once one of your characters "dies" (although by tradition in video games, the majority of characters seem incapable of dying in reality unless everyone dies) you can't use them again, whereas in other strategy RPGs you often could. (Inn! Full HP refill!!!!11111!!!!one!!!!) In the last chapter, my knight came up against the boss of the level, got in a critical, and killed him in one hit. In Bahamut Lagoon, this will not happen.
Probably because I'm more a fan of Final Fantasy style gameplay, I prefer Bahamut Lagoon in many ways. Of course, later on there's bosses which have so much HP that after you get through enough levelling, their numbers will go past the 4-digit point maximum and be displayed on the screen as "????". Yeah, Sauzer. And YOU, Palpaleos!
Nah, I love Palpaleos actually. Even if he does get Yoyo. And at first Sauzer seems so much like Golbez, but then you realise that Sauzer wasn't visited by the Man on the Moon.
There's always Front Mission, too, but I never did get past the fourth or fifth level.
