Dango Roasting

Day 122 January 13, 2007 Saturday

Today was my study day so I studied inside and when I went to the convenience store for lunch (first PB&J sandwich in Japan!) the Anzai-sans saw me and called me over. Mr. Anzai had branches which looked like a rake, and on each end we put 2 or 3 dango (mochi/ sticky rice balls) and then went to the Temple in our neighborhood (first time going there!) and they were burning wood, and the reed wreaths that were made for the beginning of the year- we took our tango sticks and roasted them in the hot hot fire. It was so fun because there were so many people and children there running around, eating, drinking, talking… The Anzais know a lot of people in this area and introduced me to many people (Mr. Anzai kept saying “Ya, this is my Daughter! haha”) The Anzais really have been so kind to me :D
