Last Day of the Year!!! zzzzz
Day 110 , December 31, 2006 Sunday
Hung out around the house all day. In the morning I slept in and woke at 9 and ate breakfast. Then we finished cleaning the Nitta house! At first Ryohei and his mom didn’t want to do it but Ryohei and I mapped out where we were going to clean and did it. The other family members SAID they were done but… *wipes dust skeptically of an edge* I think NOT!!! I thought when they said thorough cleaning they meant making everything complete spotless and fresh for the new year… Apparently they meant vacuuming the floors like usual… But ya, we got everything done so it met my approval… hehe, the dirtiest room in the house was probably the laundry room where INCHES of dust lay everywhere- quite a chore to clean up but feels good to see the result! Haha, we had to used wet newspaper to mop up the dust because the rags were becoming worthless pretty fast by getting dirty… But ya, good tradition cleaning the entire house in one day--
In the evening Ryohei ran off to play some soccer so I did some studying, went sukiyaki food shopping with the parents and with the family played karuta (totoro version, one person reads a saying that starts with a hiragana symbol and then you try and find the matching card from the cards jumbled on the ground.), jenga, video games, and watched a singing match on TV. The TV show is called Kohaku where the white team represents men singers and red represents the women side. They sing and from votes from cell phones etc. they pick a year winner ;) kinda traditional Japanese thing…And this year the boys won, and good thing. All the girls were wearing totally gaudy, flamboyant clothing… way to cutsie and… like J-pop… totally seemed like they were trying wayyyyy too hard to look cute and not on their music..
Well anyways at 10:45 I was getting sleepy and went up stairs to take a little 30 minute nap and… I SLEPT THROUGH MY ALARM!!!! Well, so did Ryohei- but I woke up at 12:45 and everything was over… SO FREAKING LAME!!! Gahhhh, I was and still kinda am mad at myself but maybe there will be another chance next year… uh yeah, no… Ryohei told me “At least while we slept the dark force left us!”(star wars reference) and I had no clue what the heck he was talking about but apparently at midnight they ring the shrine bells 108 times to chase out the bad spirits for the new year.
