I always intended to migrate everything to Dreamwidth, but I never did get around to it. Being in a state of possible migration has meant that I haven't really bothered to write here. At this point I'm going to give up on the idea that I might migrate, and go back to using this space when I need to. Admittedly, that isn't often these days. I'm out ( Read more... )

Migration is just a matter of pressing a button and waiting a day. Oh, and setting up your feed again, but that's relatively easy.

Yeah - but it isn't though. I've had the same thought as Naomi, but there's a sense that in part this is the ghost-town where a community was. If she'd migrated I wouldn't have seen this for example - unless she migrated and then set-up a cross post, at which point... what's the point? You're moving from a ghost-town to a barren wasteland in social media terms. Neither is ideal, but one is worse.

If I look at my legacy LJ feed, the active users in the ghost town are those who have migrated and are still supporting those who haven't. But you're right, I should make the migration permanent, and cut the legacy feed.

Yeah, it wasn't one click. It put me in some sort of queue the first time so I had to do it later, and never went back.

LJ has a better/newer UI. Change is hard. And the truth is it isn't a choice between this and dreamwidth. Its a choice between this and nothing. Its like when you want to move tables in a bar but you know that when you get up you'll all decide that that's a good enough time to go home. The only thing that kept you there was that you hadn't moved yet...
