Lovely insightful review , Natty!
You picked up and articulated many of the things I did, but a few more too. I especially loved your observations about Dean being Sam's heart (and maybe the heart of the Campbell's hunting group too) - and share your concerns about Sam and Samuel.
I've seen quite a few people strongly critising Bobby's actions even more than Sam's in keeping Sam's return quiet, so I am happy to read someone who thinks Bobby's stance was done from love. I do too - and I do understand how he would have thought this way.

Thank you! I was avoiding reading other people's review before writting mine, so that it wouldn't cloud the afterglow of watching this episode as it has so often happened in the past, but now I'm very curious to see what others thought of it :)

I thought this episode was a good start off for the season and was not disappointed by it. I totally agree that Dean is Sam's heart and just as Dean said back in season 5 they both keep each other human. I also share your thoughts on grandpa Samuel who seemed way off to me. Do you guys really think there was a reason for God to bring him back, or was Samuel not actually telling the truth?

This was a very poignant and thoughtful review. I also liked the episode but am concerned about Sam's state of soul. :)

I adored Dean in this one. It was so nice to see him sane and relatively non-suicidal that I didn't blame Bobby as much as I thought I would.

Hehehe! Dean as a normal person is gonna take awhile to get use to. And I'm sure that, as soon as be become familiar with that version of him, the writers will turn the wheels on us again :)

Hee, I'm glad you liked this episode because I enjoyed it very much, the way I haven't enjoyed a premiere since "In My Time of Dying ( ... )

I'm only going with my first reaction of the episode, because I've only seen it once (*grin* so far), and I do hope I'm wrong and you're right, but Sam seemed a bit odd to me. Maybe it's that shift from being an emotional thinker to, what appears now, a very rational thinker. I didn't get that vibe of Sam wanting Dean with him for the sole purpose of having that connection with Dean again. I mean, I'm sure Sam does want Dean to join their group, I'm just not sure if his reasons are as emotional as you seem to think.

All in all, YES!!! What an awesome way to start a season :)

I like your analysis and read it allowed me to put back in prospect all the episode and I had not totally seen things as you about sam but I have to say that I agree with your analysis.
Concerning Bobby I didn't question one second that he made this decision by love for dean which he always has to consider as his son

I'm glad for that :)
And yes, Bobby's paternal love shined really powerfully those few minutes he was on screen *melts*
