You know what I'm sick of? News reports about how ultimate fighting is horrible and "gladiatorial." Ok, ultimate fighting is real and can get bloody, but what about professional wrestling? Pro wrestling is fake, but it is a multimillion dollar business that targets adolescent males. What harm has wrestling done? Have you seen backyard wrestling? A bunch of idiot kids across the nation have taken to backyards and simulated what they have seen on pro wrestling. That includes punching, kicking, jumping on one another, and hitting one another with chairs and two-by-fours. Yet, everyone in the media is pissed about ultimate fighting. I think it is because AOL Time Warner (ATW), a major media conglomerate isn't getting a cut of the UFC dollar because UFC events are mainly on pay-per-view, but lately Spike has aired a reality series and a few matches. Spike is owned by Viacom, a competing media conglomerate. AOL Time Warner as well as Viacom both air pro wrestling. CNN Headline News (ATW) is also the channel on which I saw these news reports. Ted Turner, a top dog in AOL Time Warner, has also produced such classics as "WCW: New Blood Rising", "WCW: World War III", and the series "WCW Monday Nitro" just to name a few. I just find it funny that the only one of these two media conglomerates to air negative stories on UFC is one that can't make money off of it.
I don't want to say its a big conspiracy, but logically a news organization will not attack a property of their own network or related network(s) in the interest of avoiding alienation of commercial sponsors. However, they may also attack media property that they don't own as a competitive tactic. This is just an example of how media conglomerates are not evil in a mustache twisting, world domination way, but in a way that makes them blind to hypocrisy or default favoritism in the name of continuing to make money.
Enough about, that. Happy news now! in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...
