Poised on the Precipice of Adventure - and a whole lotta school work...

OMG  (look, I'm 16!) I have so much fun ahead of me for the next month, I'm not sure how I'm going to fit school in.

This weekend - DC

June 4 through 6 - Tybee with Dude and supposedly, ACAP

June 11 through 13 - Nantahala with my friend B for my birthday

June 18 through 20 - Paddling School on the Nanty

June 25 through 27 - Annual Blackrock camping extravaganza and paddling something fun.

So far July only has one weekend of camping/paddling, but I am sure that will all change presently...

My goal this summer is to be really awesome on the Nanty.  I'd like to be able to run all of Patton's and the Falls.

Right now I run from the bottom of Patton's and take out at the cement beach above the falls.  Patton's is rated II +, but it is a long rapid and the falls are a solid III.  Not because of the drop, I've been over bigger drops, but because both cannot be run straight through.  You have to make moves in the middle of both rapids to skirt more than one hydraulic that tends to suck little whitewater kayaks in, and a whole lotta unfriendly rocks that will flip you.  Technical controlled moves in fast water with consequences if you don't make the move.

My goal last summer was to learn to roll, which is coming along nicely.  My goal this summer is to be Nanty competent.  What makes the Nanty different than other rivers I paddle, is, it is so very fast.  But, so are the Pigeon, the Tellico, the Chattooga - and finally, the Ocoee, with it's Olympic kayak section.  And I aspire to those, someday, so this summer, I master the Nantahala.

Oh yeah, school.
