LJ Idol, Week 0 - Who am I?

Oct 29, 2007 08:16

This week is a non-elimination round for LJ Idol, kind of a chance for people to get to know one another and get their writing styles out there. So, in typical Amber fashion, I'm not putting too much thought into it and just jumping in to let whatever come out that wants to. (Yeah, me, impulsive much ( Read more... )

Yep. We've been here for over 2 years now. We live over on Elm Hill & Briley. Where are you at?

Rich's best friend used to live over there. His wife still does. (He's in Utah for his Post-Doc and she's still here finishing up her own doctoral work.) Where are you working at?

Ooh, very nice!

...I thought we were supposed to leave the Idol entries unlocked so the community could read them...???

Crud! I thought I had. Thanks for letting me know that something happened to pull it back to Friends Only.

I think it's a great entry and a great introduction. I am intrigued by the Jack the Ripper side. I haven't studied him in detail but I have a good enough basis to ask who YOU think he was. Any guesses?

Actually, I think it wasn't one person. There are enough differences in some of the killings for me to think that it may not have been the same person. With Kate Eddowes, there was just the slit across the throat (though it's commonly thought the person was interrupted in his killing). Mary Jane Kelly was the only one killed inside and much more brutally. Both of them have good reasons for their SOs to have been their killers. The other three may have been the same killer, but I'm not really sure.

If it is just one killer, I don't think he has, nor will he ever be, found. Every theory I've heard has had a ton of holes in it. Everyone tries to get their pet theories to fit with what they want to believe and ignores the things that don't fit.

I actually lean towards the "more than one killer" theory too. All the other theories pegging one person seem to be nothing more than trying to make the proof fit the theory rather than based on scientific analysis of the data.

Do you mean more than one real Jack the Ripper letter writer or just that every kill associated with The Ripper may not be him?

I mean, there may be more than one murderer... but there was only ONE Jack the Ripper...

just like there was only ONE real Zodiac Killer or at least person who CLAIMED to be the Zodiac Killer.

Your little "mood" icon freaked me right out. You seem to usually have a little star or something cute like that. I've only seen one other person use the little woman you have now. The problem is that she's dead now, so when I was scrolling rapidly down my FP (I like to read in chronological order), I was confused and freaked.

Good luck with LJ idol, though!

I just changed it today for Halloween. I'll probably go back to the stars afterwards. I didn't mean to freak you out, though.

And thanks for the good luck wish!

What a great metaphor! I love this entry! Also- I think we're going to have much more in common than I'd expected. Most of your primary values and interests coincide with mine VERY closely, especially in the areas of writing, role playing, reading, being a friend, giving advice, in sexuality and in being a dreamer. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better though the contest! :-D

I look forward to getting to know you more as well. I'm a very open about who I am and what I believe. And I try to be very open-minded about things as well.

I'm moderately open, but I sure have a big mouth! ;-) The elevator opens up to deeper levels slowly with me, but I come around. LJ idol is going to bring some things out of deep places for me.

Hopefully that will be a good thing for you. I think, in my case, it will just help clarify the things that I do let out. I have a tendency to tell too much sometimes. Plus I ramble when I do it.
