Let's update everyone on Amy's life.
Classes
I am taking DNA, which is a class in which we learn to analyze sequences of DNA using the programming language Perl. It is alternately fun and incredibly boring, since the programming we are learning about is basically everything I learned in the first ten minutes of freshman year, stretched out into an entire semester.
I am taking Computational Theory, which is a class I really enjoy taught by a professor I really like. Gousie is so good at giving notes and explaining things, and although his homeworks and tests and projects are always a challenge, they're enjoyable challenges since they're not impossible.
I am taking Algorithms, which would be a pretty okay class if it weren't for the fact that my professor for that class also teaches DNA and all our projects are based off of the same exact projects we're doing in DNA. The main difference is that we have a little bit extra to learn about each of those projects, since everyone in the class is a more experienced programmer and we're programming in C and C++, not Perl.
I am taking intermediate Italian, which is usually enjoyable but also tedious. I hate doing the homework since it's either busy work or a project. I have to write a one page fairy tale in Italian due Monday.
Work
I am still working in the Post Office, but it's turned more into a hassle than anything else. I work Monday 1 - 3 pm, Tuesday 9 - 11 am, and Saturday 9 - 11 am. I hate waking up early for work. It just seems like it's one of the main things holding me back from having enjoyable weekends, since I can't manage to stay up past midnight most nights. I'd like to, but I'm always just too tired.
My second job is with Intramural Athletics, keeping stats and being a referee / umpire for basketball, soccer, flag football, and softball. It's a sweet job, since I get paid even during the time that I am actually playing whatever sport is happening. I like to consider myself a professional athlete.
My third job is as the Assistant Technical Coordinator of the Arts, and it's sweet. I get to work backstage in the Wheaton Theatre whenever my free time allows it, hanging and focusing lights, actually being backstage during productions, running the lightboard, and other tasks that just need getting done, like setting up for whatever events are happening. This weekend was Homecoming Weekend, which means that I was pretty busy. The actual Technical Coordinator of the Arts is Ari, who was a senior here when I was a freshman, oh-so-long-ago, and it's great to see him all the time again. We hang out probably more than I see anyone else during the day, since my free time is mostly dedicated to the theatre.
