Project QAF - 119

Oh look, the episode number matches today's date. ;)

++SCENES++

Love the camera in the first scene - the zoom in and zoom out, almost like a heartbeat. And the movements. Great work.

Oh, did you notice how the one guy (NOT the one who’s sucking his cock - the other one) is way too into the scene (or Gale) in the opening sequence? But - who can fault him?

Big topics: Brian’s dad dies and Daphne gets Justin to de-virginize her. Awkwardness ensues. Surprise. What do we think about that?

I love that the whole family turned up for Jack’s funeral. They sure weren’t there for Jack but to support Brian and I think it’s nice. Also love that Brian walks away from the crowd gathered around the casket. It’s sooo… something.

Oops, I forgot another major topic: Ted’s struggling with Blake and Blake’s addiction (which he denies exists). And Emmett (who’s sporting the most hideous haircut in the history of QAF) is being a real good friend to Teddy.

Question, everyone (because I find the Brian-Jack relationship fascinating): What goes through Brian’s head when he goes bowling in Jack’s old shirt?

++QUOTES++

MICHAEL
How can you even think about sex right now?
BRIAN
Death gives you a real hard-on.
MICHAEL
Jesus, Brian! Your dad just died. How can you think about getting your dick sucked?
BRIAN
This is my grief counselor.

EMMETT
She wants you to fuck her?
TED
Gay men and straight girls sleeping together - isn’t that one of the signs of the apocalypse?

BRIAN
Have you ever been with a woman?
JUSTIN
Lots of times. When I was 14, I had sex with four girls at summer camp. When I was 15, I had an affair with my Mom’s best friend. When I was 16, I made it with Mrs. Elstead, my geometry teacher.
[shocked looks all around]
No. No!

EMMETT
Having recently made love to a woman, I can give you a few pointers.
BRIAN
Banging a bull-dyke for Jesus isn’t exactly making love.

EMMETT
[about Brian and Jack] You think it’s really true? What his father said?
TED
You know how Brian’s always trying to shock everybody. But somehow, I believe it.
EMMETT
Can you imagine growing up in that house? How did he ever survive?
TED
Who’s to say he did?

MICHAEL
He was your dad. Even though he wasn’t always nice to you. When you die, you deserve a little respect.
BRIAN
Bullshit. If you don’t earn respect when you’re alive, you don’t deserve it when you’re dead.

BRIAN
So long, Jack. You son of a bitch.

Now I've fallen in deep, slow silent sleep
It's killing me, I'm dying
To put a little bit of sunshine in your life

Title: Nothing

Brian’s POV

If I’d have had a ‚normal’ childhood, normal parents, a normal home while growing up, where would I be today? Would I still be an ad-man? Would I still be the asshole in our friends’ circle? Would I still be Mikey’s best friend? Justin’s… whatever? And would I want that? Would I want to be someone else?

Maybe this someone else could grieve better than I do now; maybe he could grieve at all.

Maybe he would have been given something to grieve about.

I am not sad. I am angry. Not for being born; because Jack did express his wishes concerning that topic when it was time to do so. This being born thing, that’s Joanie’s entire fault, St. Joan and her fucking Bible. I’m not even angry that they are at least partly responsible for me becoming what I am. It’s that they don’t realize that they are that’s making my skin crawl. Jack, that fucking bastard, could never be held accountable for anything, if you believe him. It was always life, or the others, or his wife, or anyone else really. Never him. No. He’s never taken responsibility for anything, so how could it ever be his fault?

And then he gets up and dies, not leaving behind anything to hold on to. Not a fucking thing. No ‘I’m sorry’, no ‘If only’, no ‘I wish I could’. Nothing.

That’s your legacy, Dad. You were nothing. And you died nothing. A life wasted. That’s not gonna be me.

The End.
