My girlfriend, a friend of ours, and I all rented a Zipcar yesterday and made a pilgrimage to the Mecca of particle-board consumption: Ikea! Without much consideration of the actual dimesions of our rented vehicle, we bought ten pieces of furniture, two rugs, 6 hanging curtains, assorted picture frames, pillows, and other houehold do-dads. Once the car was packed, it was 89.8% particle board, 10% car, and .2% human beings. No, i could not see out of the rear-view mirror, and yes, one person had to be folded into origami to fit. By the time we exited the Ikea parking lot, we'd spent six hours at Ikea. It was midnight before we'd returned the car and made it back to Brooklyn. Thank you, Zipcar! We reserved Machine, a mini-cargo van, and it was incredibly big inside once all of the seats folded down.
Today I'm working from home and trying to assemble two Expedit bookcases, two Malm bedside tables, one Malm dresser.
Wish me luck!
