[The man's voice, when he speaks, carries a very distinctive accent. British, maybe? In actuality, it's a ~*Ferelden*~ accent, but hey: easy mistake to make. Furthermore, it's quick and obviously rambling, as though the man is a few shades shy of shrieking screaming in a very manly way.]

No no, this can't be. It was just a pinch, it couldn't have ( Read more... )

[Varric recognizes that accent. He also recognizes that chant. He doesn't, however, recognize the voice, which is intriguing.]

Pretty sure the Maker's got nothing to do with this. Either that, or he has a very unexpected sense of humor.

[When Alistair finally gets around to opening his journal again, he stares at the writing that has appeared.

[And stares.

[And stares.

[And stares some more.]

... Waaait, this wasn't here before....

[HOW SUSPICIOUS.]

[...and Alistair can't see it, but his response gets a chuckle.]

No, it wasn't. Your observation skills seem to be intact, congratulations.

Oh! So it's a book that listens to what I say. Listens and ... writes back. That's not creepy at all.

[He pauses. A few seconds later, he clears his throat and addresses the book properly.]

HI.

[... Y-yes, he is ... nearly shouting. Gotta make sure the book can hear!]

[The chuckle turns into a bit of a laugh at that reaction. Yeah, this guy is going to be fun.]

No need to yell, I can hear you just fine.

At least you actually read the note, some new people don't. Not that it answers all that much. If you've got any questions, I've been here awhile. I can probably answer them.

[He'll tell him that he's not really a book. At some point.]

Oh. Oh, alright.

[L-lowers his voice again.]

Well, it was sitting right there. Bit hard not to read, right? [A pause.] Hopefully that wasn't ... invasive, or something.

[YUP. 8|;; Not awkward at all.]

Aside from the obvious question of how do you work? Knowing exactly where I am would be a nice thing.

Thank you.

No, not invasive at all. Like you said, it was sitting right there, waiting for you to read. I'm not sure how you'd miss it, but some people manage to.

[And, oh, great. Two questions right off the bat that Varric doesn't exactly know the answers to.]

Magic. Don't ask me what kind, I'm not a mage. Magic's not my thing. And you're in Holloway's Keep. A castle that apparently exists outside of the worlds of anyone here.

[He laughs: brief, but definitely amused.]

No worries. I didn't really take you for a mage.

[Because, y'know. It's a book.]

A castle outside worlds.... This couldn't be part of the Fade, could it?

[Oh, good, a laugh. Varric'll consider that a triumph.]

Few do. But every so often I need to make the disclaimer, anyway.

Considered that. But I've been in the Fade, and it's nothing like this. Unfortunately, this place is pretty real, though it works a lot differently than back home.

You've been in the Fade?

[Any other questions take a backseat to:]

Who carried you?

[Audio] Never be sorry! XD sayhitobianca October 13 2011, 08:00:07 UTC
A Dalish Keeper. It was some elven ritual to enter the Fade, wasn't my idea.

[The things he got into when hanging around with Hawke.]

It's always someone else's idea, isn't it? I don't know who would decide to go in there on their own.

[Hey man, at least it wasn't a Sloth Demon!]

Someone with a hero complex, going in there because it's the only way to save someone.

[...and his friends.]

Makes for a great story, at least.

Yes, there is that sort of situation....

[Oooh Connor.]

Do you have a lot of them? Stories, I mean.

Been through it yourself, have you?

[He grins at that.]

You could say that. It's something of a hobby of mine: telling stories, listening to other people tell theirs. Nothing better than a good tale and a captive audience.

I wasn't the one to go in, no. Not that time. It had to be a mage, and I don't exactly fill the bill on that.

[That's putting it mildly.]

That sounds like a good hobby to have. Hard to think of one more fitting, really.

[❤ (+1) Alistair approves. (Hey, everyone needs a hobby. Even a talking book.)]
