Happy new year :o)

Not that I go for all the "new year" stuff anyways... I'm a little against the whole "let's-all-get-drunk-because-the-calendar-says-a-new-year-is-starting-and-how-better-to-begin-it-than-with-a-hangover?" mentality...
Anyways, here are my New Year's Resolutions:

1. Eat more dark chocolate.
2. Sleep more.
3. Write in a journal. No, not the online type.
4. Take more bubble baths.
5. Drink more water.

There you have it. Unconventional? Maybe. But at least I don't have to worry about not keeping any of my resolutions :o) (Except for the sleeping thing. Eek.)

My vacation has been relatively relaxing and uneventful. I watched lots of Alias episodes (I got the S3 dvds) and now I'm all set for S4 starting Wednesday! I got caught up on two months worth of music history notes (I did from Nov. 9- Jan. 7).. I got a ceramic hair straightener that makes my hair bee-yoo-tee-ful.. Even if it still takes me forever to blowdry my hair straight. Any tips?

I went to J's new house... As expected, we had an adventure. Compared to most of our adventures, it was boooring, but hey, an adventure is an adventure! So I took the bus down to Rideau to meet her after work on Tuesday, then we caught the 95 to Baseline. There's two buses that go into her neighbourhood, the 172 and 174. So we thought we would take whichever one came first... But then as we were on the 95, approaching Baseline, we saw that the 172 was up ahead of us (and the 174 comes first, so if we missed it we'd have to wait for an hour). Luckily it stopped at Baseline, and we ran for our lives to the stop and caught it before it pulled away. And we were all happy. Then as we were driving along, J suddenly says "What the hell is going on? Why aren't we turning?"
And I say "Uh, I do not know what you speak of." (Well, maybe I didn't say that exactly...)
And then I say (and I deserve credit for saying a smart thing such as this) "Go ask le bus-driver."

So she does. And it turns out that they were running on the Saturday schedule, and on Saturdays the bus doesn't go into her neightbourhood. So we got off at the next stop. And walked. Really fast. It took us 35 minutes to cover a distance that would normally take an hour. Needless to say... it was cold.

At J's place I met the stepbrother (he's nice) got the grand tour (so is the house, minus the un-insulated windows) and had hot soup (mmmm...). Then I was forced by my best friend to watch Nip/Tuck, which is a terrible, terrible, terrible show. I mean, plastic surgeons? having sex with everyone, including their patients? doomed marriages being solved by sex? police charging a mother for flushing a gerbil? hello.. flushing a gerbil? a teenage boy trying self-circumcision? said teenage boy's girlfriend turning out to be a lesbian?

WTF? Do not watch this show. It killed a little more of my sanity (and I don't have much of that to spare).

And to finish up... I made the best chewy-brownies ever yesterday. And a bonus? They have less than 4 grams of fat each.. I don't worry about fat content and whatever (dude, my new year's resolution is to eat more chocolate) but seriously, these are as good, if not better than full-fat brownies. They were just a little too sweet for me, an h.core chocoholic, so next time I'll replace a couple of squares of bittersweet  with unsweetened chocolate... The only other downside? They only made one pan :-(

I'm making more tomorrow. And doubling the recipe. Then posting it here. You must try these.
