Come Into My Parlor

Sep 05, 2004 11:09

"Come into my parlor,"said the spider to the fly.He smiled gently, demurely. "Would you like to see the inside of the building? I'd very much like to show it to you." He wrapped his thin boney hand around hers. His touch was cold. A touch of death. But he had stopped feeling the cold long ago. It had settled into a numbness ( Read more... )

Mikage entered behind her and closed the door with a final click that echoed up and down the hall, emphasizing it's emptiness. The dim glow of the gaslights was the only illumination provided, dancing off the walls, and bringing out the shadows and intricacies of the woodwork, the blood red valour on the chairs, the row of pointing hands, and the faces. 100 faces. 100 boys. 100 deaths. He ran a hand over a photograph on the wall and then turned to the counter and picked up a card and a pen.
"If you could just fill this out, Kozue-chan. It's just an information card for us to have on file in case you ever do decide to attend the seminar. I will be, right back."
He walked down the hall, his lonely footsteps ringing clearly off the hollow walls. The lamplight only continued for about 10 feet before disappearing into darkness. In a few moments the darkness had swallowed all of him, even his footsteps.
The silence seemed alive, whispering, pressing in, invasive.
An empty chair stood ready, spindly and not meant for comfort. It's carvings seemed to writhe in the lamplight.
A waiting game...

An information card? Well... why the hell not? Picking up the pen, she scrawled down her information.
Name: Kaoru Kozue
Age: 13 years old
Class: 7th grade, B class
Gender: Female.
As she wrote down her address, the final section on the card, she wondered why they wanted to have such things on file. Shrugging, she pushed the finished form across the desk, before turning and leaning back against the hard wood, waiting for the older boy to return. Miki... if I were to sleep with this highschooler whose seminar you rejected... would it bother you? Or would you not even care anymore? Swallowing, she bit her lip impatiently. Those signs seemed to beckon her more and more the longer she stared at them...

It can't hurt anyone just to look, surely... she told herself as she wandered over to look at the pictures. One of what seemed to be Mikage himself, though in strange clothes. A bunch of boys all looking over their shoulders at the camera - I wonder if they're the boys who...? Yet another showed a woman with a short bob, sitting next to a dark-skinned boy with pale hair.

Looking at each picture, she stepped along, in the direction of the signs. Well, he went this way... and he was supposed to be right back. I'm not going to wait and do nothing. Just as she reached the end of the photographs, she saw a row of chairs out of the corner of her eye, running across the corridor and blocking any further progress. Damn. Should I go through? Then she saw the signs pointing to a small, inconspicuous door with a sign on the handle saying 'Interview Chamber'. It had been left ajar. He must have gone this way, then. Opening the door, she stepped through and closed the door behind her, in search of that enigmatic something that seemed to surround Mikage like a mist.

As the door clicked shut there was a rasping and buzzing and a neon overhead light flickered on, basking the room in a pale yellow glow. Before her was a plain wooden seat facing a mirror in a cell only about six feet across and three feet wide. On the wall hung a framed leaf under glass.

A voice came from above. A familiar voice but sounding very far away and metallic. Dead.

"Please. Have a seat."

What is this? Kozue wondered. This is the interview chamber? It's so tiny, almost like an elevator... or some crazy confessional box. And the mirror in front of her seemed to confirm that suspicion - she was positive that it was actually one-way glass. Oh well. What do I say now? 'Forgive me father, for I have sinned'? Not likely. The only blessing I want is from my brother, and lately he doesn't care how much I sin.

"7th grade, B class, Kaoru Kozue."

With a jolt, the floor began to rumble beneath her feet and chair, and a soft whirring noise penetrated her ears from what suddenly seemed so far away. The pounding of her blood drowned out all other sound.

The elevator was confining, and even if someone wasnt claustrophobic they started to desplay signs. The walls seemed to close in. Their breath came faster. Fear. Only themselves to stare at in oneway glass. Only themselves to blame. Only themselves.

A butterfly underglass. Pinned. This was his examining table. These were his test subjects. This was his seminar.

"Please. Feel free to speak your mind."

My mind. My mind is full of one thing and one thing only, these days. Of course, he's always been uppermost in my mind, no matter what other thoughts I may have had.

"Miki is my twin brother." Does anyone, can anyone truly know what it is to be a twin if they are not one themselves? Do they know what a supreme privilege and ultimate torture it is? "When we were young, we were very, very close. We lost that intimacy later due to a misunderstanding and our parents divorced, but still, he's never been anything but kind and loving towards me. Everything a little sister could want." But I am not just a kid sister to be petted and indulged the way Touga handles Nanami. I am the other half of him, dammit, and he should treat me that way!

"When we reached adolescence, if something happened to me that would supposedly hurt my feelings, or damage my reputation, Miki would pretend on the outside that it was all right, that even if he didn't approve of my choices, he accepted my right to make them. But inside... inside he worries himself sick over me, day and night. I'm all he can think about! And that's why I always date boys that I know Miki thinks are unworthy of me!" His heart should always be filled with me! His mind should always be occupied with me! He should always be looking at me and only me - just as I care about him and only him. Those other boys, even Touga, are just tools for my body and Miki's heart.

"But, now... now..."

They never believed him when he said that the most beautiful roses bloom in the dark. Fed on regret, lust, anger, jealousy. On these powerful emotions his roses thrived. This is what life is. This is what moves mankind.

He could see the pain in her eyes. She was a black to a white, just like him. She had potential to become powerful if she could just embrace that darkness, become lost in it. All she needed was a little nudging. He would have his revolution.

He leaned in closer to the microphone and whispered softly.

"Fukaku motto...Fukaku."

"But now... there's that other girl. Miki promised me that we'd talk. He promised me - he had to. There was a teacher that was touching him," pawing him in public god knows what he did in private oh Miki... "and I saw. I confronted Miki with what I knew, and we from what he let slip I was able to do something," or rather, persuade the Chairman to do something... "but when I came home, she was there in the house, and Miki wouldn't give me a decent explanation. He promised me that we'd have a talk, a real talk, but she's been staying in our house ever since, and I haven't been able to talk to Miki at all, and she's always there. We were so close to returning to the bond we had... but now Miki's become so distant, worse than it ever was before. He could find out I slept with anyone and I don't think he'd care anymore. He wouldn't care..." I'm losing him I'm losing my Miki how do I grasp hold of his every thought and feeling now? Oh god...

"He's drifting further and further away, his heart is drifting away from me!"

He could feel his grip on her tightening. Just a few more little nudges and she'd plummet into the abyss. The elevator fell fast and faster, heading for disaster. Soon to crash. At last.

Mamiya would be so pleased.

"Fukaku...Motto...Fukaku..."

He knew she couldnt bear it anymore. He saw the rage and pain and hurt in her eyes. She needed an outlet and he was more than willing to give it to her. She just had to give in. Give in to the darkness. Surrender sweetly to her sin.

He smiled.

Soon.

The roaring in her ears was almost too much to bear. "That teacher had more of him than I do now! That bitch Himemiya has more of him! I've disappeared from his sight! He's supposed to look at me and only at me! I am his twin! I am his other half! He's my other half, and he's leaving me! He's leaving me and I won't let him do that! I won't! But I don't know how to keep him beside me anymore!" I''ll do anything to keep you, Miki love, but I don't know how! Oh, come back... show me how to bring you back to me... I'll kill you before I let you go!
