This might be the only instance where the entry isn't as good as the subject line but I'll try to recap the events of yesterday the best I can. Yesterday was HP Day! Very different from LOST Day but still pretty gangsta (it literally got pretty damn gangsta at some point - more about that later). Liz called me over to watch the All Star game, which was pretty cool. But we (the NL) LOST! And I didn't see any Diamondbacks partake in the funtivities except Eric Byrnes, who forced his dog into the Pacific ocean to retrieve a ball he had thrown out there. "Bruin just LOVES to swim, don'tcha, Bruin?!" *nudge* *nudge* *kick* *LAUNCH* Craziness, it was the funniest thing ever. The dog was totally heading for Hawaii. The All Star game was pretty good, I suppose. It was worth seeing A-Rod twirl around like a princess at 3rd base and flee for his life when a routine, ground ball was hit down the 3rd base line. That was great. The best part wasn't even during the game, it was when Willie Mays drove around in a pink, Cadillac convertible JUST like the one on Liz's sign she made for the game! Pretty sweet, yo. Then we had dinner, chicken parmesan! I loved it, though, Liz will never believe me. She never believes me about ANYTHING I claim to like! But yeah, dinner was great. Although, we ate and ran, which I TOLD Liz was very rude but whatever, not MY fault! I couldn't do much at the time except glare at her direction and at which point she literally ate and ran away. Ahh, well. Time to see 'Harry 5!' We picked up Alisa 'Sticky Fingaz' Mastin at her house (and yes, what appears in the quotation marks WILL be explained shortly - don't you worry). I said hello to my 'Lost' DVDs, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Nice! I'm glad she's a fan and my convertees number in the twenties. Or thereabouts.
We walked inside to see the Z already there in line. The Z's definitely the reason we got such great seats. While in line I played that 'Potter to Potter' game . . . is that what it's called? I hope so. Anyway, yeah, I wasn't very good. Which doesn't make any sense because the cards all have great descriptions and things to help you out. But I kept getting very obscure people and places that couldn't possibly be described as "Awesome!" It's a nice game, though, it must have taken FOREVER to make. Make one for Lost, yo! Ahh, man. Now, that game. THAT game I would . . . still suck at, I have horrible luck. I can't win anything. Seriously. We were allowed in (for some reason) about 3 hours before the movie was scheduled to start and found ourselves with nothing to do. Around that time we met up with Suzanne and her buddy Monica. And like I said earlier, we got ourselves some really thug bar seats! To pass the time, I offered to be the discard pile while various people played a unique version of solitaire. We gave hangman movie edition a shot but I sorta kinda cheated by choosing '300' as my movie for them to guess. That earned me a nice, freezing cold piece of ice down the back of my shirt! Ehh, I probably deserved that. The crowd was your typical, midnight-showing crowd. Very rowdy and unhinged. It wasn't obnoxious, they were just very alive. We tried to do our part to bring in the noise by starting a slow clap a couple of times but it didn't go as well as it could have. It wasn't working! So, what did we end up doing? Throwin' down some serious freestylin' raps! It was very East coast, none of that self-promoting gagbage you hear from mainstream rappers, talking about their cars, plasma screen TVs and Swiss bank accounts or whatever they're going on about. There's sort of a layered weaving that needs to be done and absurd humor is always the goal. In any case, we tried to make it work. Liz tried particularly hard, nice job, yo! The Z got a verse in, very nice! And that's when Alisa dropped her's, which had something to do with toes, I don't quite remember. And the floor was sticky at the time. I was like "Hmmm . . . you shall forever be known as Sticky Fingaz." The name just stuck, that's all I can say. Yeah. We had a freestylin' competition in the theater for 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.' If that isn't street, I don't know what IS! It certainly helped to pass the time. You just gotta let yourself go, yo. How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a rap battle? But anyway, these guys are all major league gangsta, fo' sho.
It wasn't long before it was movie time! I don't remember if we did this before or after the previews but we gave the slow clap a whirl, one more time. And this time it worked like a charm. Gangsta! That's like my life's ambition right there, getting the slow clap to work at every public venue in which I am in attendence. Of course, you gotta throw out "LET'S GET SOME RUNS," which I did. Pretty sweet, I must say. I thought the movie was pretty good overall. I always have the most trouble remembering what went on in this book because it was a very long time ago and the book didn't read particularly smoothly, in my opinion. Unnecessarily long, I think. I'd think it would make for a very good standalone movie, but of course it helps to have read the book beforehand. I still think 'Harry 4' is better and so is its book. I now have renewed interest in the series . . . kinda. I just want to see how it all ends. Again, I really hope no one RUINS it for me! I seriously had to convince myself that I didn't care about the book. That I didn't care Dumbledore was dead and I knew the ending. And that I didn't care about the whole Harry Potter franchise. But I WANTED to like the book! I DID care! What's the use if you're on page 10 and Dumbledore's already dead, HMMM?! Exactly. Nah, just kidding, I'm not bitter. ;) I'll check out the new one when it comes out. I think I can be very unfair to these books/movies sometimes. I mean, there isn't a single character that I particularly like or want to see. But I was sitting next to Suzanne and as the movie was progressing and good stuff was going on, she would just light up along with the rest of the theater. It made me kinda happy to see it. It's these types of good versus evil stories that give people something to cheer about and I think that's really the point. You gotta look past the whiny, pathetic excuse for a hero, Harry Potter and his friends, which consists of an extremely wound, uptight little girl who's discovering her true snobbery and his blubbering sidekick, whose hair is still going through the Ringo Starr phase; something all British kids go through on their way to adulthood. But the story is good. So yeah, not bad. Plus, I agree with Liz, Alan Rickman completely owns movie Snape and simple lines like "OB-viously" become highlights of a movie that desperately needs highlights. Just kidding, the movie was good. I'll definitely get the book. But not before the Mango makes her way back from France! Nice! It'll be nice to see her again, that's fo' sho. I miss the Mango. Back when the Z was busy with school and Liz with work, the Mango would always be around to talk to. Good times. We'll all hang out fo' sho, though, maybe hit up Souper! Salad! again? And I never get tired of going to the ballpark to catch a game. The Diamondbacks just need to get their act together, that's all. Here's to hoping they do! Well, yesterday was fun, thanks for hookin' me up with that ticket, Liz! I'll see ya guys around . . .
Lata all!
;)
