There are lots and lots of names being touted for the new manager of Liverpool. Depending on what you read, and who you believe the main choices are:

Martin O'Neill

Roy Hodgson

Marcello Lippi

Other names that have been put into the pot for the moment are:

Sven Goran Eriksson

Harry Redknapp

David Moyes

Personally I can't see Martin O'Neill at Anfield. He is a good enough manager but doesn't really have the experience that a club like Liverpool would require, despite their current position. I also don't think that he would be willing to work under such strict constraints as there would be at Liverpool, until the club gets sold at least, and also he might stand a better chance of obtaining Champions League Football at Villa, so I don't think that he is a likely choice.

Roy Hodgson would be an interesting one. He is a good manager, has lots of experience at big clubs and has taken Fulham as far as he could in the last season, so would probably be up for the challenge, and would definitely get the best out of the players that we have at the moment, whether he could attract big names to the club is debatable.

Marcello Lippi is a former World Cup and Champions League winning manager and certainly has the kudos that a club like Liverpool would like, and would definitely be able to bring in players from top clubs, but would he want to take on a club who didn't even finish in the top 6 of their league last season?

Sven would be an interesting choice. He too has the experience with top clubs and would probably be available after the World Cup and did a good job at Man City. Apparently he actually is interested in the job, and he would be a name, so he might stand an outside chance.

I can't see either Harry Redknapp or David Moyes being likely candidates. For a start Rednkapp would have to be mad to swap Champions League Football for the UEFA Cup but, on the other hand, this would be the biggest club he would have ever managed so that might tempt him, but I wouldn't put any money on it. As for Moyes would the fans ever accept a former Everton player as Liverpool manager?
