"Cassie Lang! This is your conscience speaking"

So I caved and bought the Stature issue of YA: Presents from the local bookstore. Mock if you will. It had Eli and Katie in it.

I knew I would love this issue. It's been too long since the gang's been separated, and Eli, Katie, Billy and Cassie in one issue made me very happy. I cannot possibly object to any comic that showcases just how awesome Eli and Kate are: Katie, being smart and practical and mini-Batman without the psychosis---first talks to Cassie, buys the microscope, calls the guys in to help Cassie out and orders pizza, secure in the belief that between them, they will be able to sort things out. And Eli, distant as he might be from the other YA, is ultimately the big brother and Captain America to Cassie. Everyone Listens to Cap, No One Can Help But Listen to Cap. It's a tradition that's apparently carried on to the YA.

That said, I really wish Marvel editorial would sort things out about how things stand with the YA. Last comic Cassie was in, YA: Vision, it was abundantly clear that she bore some resentment towards the rest of the team. And while I agree with Grevioux that the team would be there for each other, no matter what, I can't help thinking that the others would be just as offended with her position. They all have very personal---and valid---reasons for opposing registration. Eli's grandfather was experimented on, court-martialed and destroyed; Teddy was locked up in a experimentation facility for how long; Billy and Teddy were locked up in the Cube with the psychotic warden who likes dissecting meta human teenagers. None of them have any particular reason to trust the government with more power over their lives, and I think Eli, with his personal history and his frequent clashes with Steve, would be especially offended at the idea he'd opposed registration simply because Steve Rogers did so. I'm not bashing Cassie mind---I just think that this is something that should have been addressed. The pay-off, reestablishing the YA as Cassie's family by paralleling Scott and Cassie eating ice cream, and the team together having pizza and soda, would have been so much better.

There's also the nagging fact that the YA apparently carry on with their civilian lives, despite opposing registration and despite Tony Stark knowing exactly who they are. I might believe that Tony decided to turn a blind eye to the kids---they're one of the few links he has left with Steve. But again, I wish this were addressed.

Clearly, fanfic must be written to fill in the missing pieces. *eyes f'list*
