Yeah, every time I give advice about dieting and I tell them to cut the coffee out of the diet I always get the dependency argument. Caffeine is a drug, and it is addictive in this sense. Overall, it slows down your system when used on a regular basis because you are using it just to reach the mental state of normal. Thus, you can barely use it for that extra push when it comes to gym time. That's my take on it.

I also forgot to mention two other tips and tricks:
1) Eat more slowly: it takes the body about 15 minutes to react to the food you just ate. Eating at a slower pace helps gauge over eating.
2) If you are still craving food even after a BIG meal then brush your teeth: the act of brushing our teeth has become a staple in our brain to tell us that the meal time is over. After brushing your teeth you tend to get the toothpaste after taste on everything you just ate, which would help us to stop eating then and there - hopefully.

Anyways, I'm not actually telling you to not go out and eat and snack. Simply, I would be suggesting to watch what you eat. Aim for the lower calorie nutrition enriched meal. Me, I always go for the protein meal when I need it. Yeah, just remember these are suggestions that I am offering from my own experience dealing with these things.
