Gastro 5 days off David Jones mid year clearance sale

[This post will have photos at some stage but it does have spelling mistakes]

Back to work today after 5 days off. My poor nonagenarian patient had gastroenteritis. Guess how often I had to get a bed pan? I also requested/told the intern to chart IV fluids to stop dehydration. I assessed her pain and chose appropriate medications to administer.

I spent most of the weekend with Katrina. She lent me her radiator fan assisted heater. That combined with my new 'warm' rated doona (we don't say duvet in Australia) keeps me warm at night (metabolic warmth is appreciated too ;)

I finally posted last year's tax return to the Australian Taxation Office.

Australian Air Express are total idiots. Apparently they couldn't find my apartment so instead of leaving my ADSL modem at their depot in Melbourne for me to collect they SENT IT TO THE HARDWARE DISTRIBUTOR IN SYDNEY. That company has nothing to do with my ISP iiNet. Fortunately some dude from iiNet is sorting it all out. Need broadband yesterday.

Went to Comedy at The Local on Monday. The Bedroom Philosopher was billed as the MC. I'm his number 1 fan and he piked because he did his voice in Hobart. The comedians weren't even that funny (they weren't too bad but Rod Quantock was awesome when he MCed last time). Rod Quantock! - almost twice the age of the audience but he is hilarious.

Katrina gave me the best present ever - a mug.

How cool is that? So arty. The NGV rocks.

On Tuesday I got to meet one of Katrina's best friends - Blair. Blair and his girlfriend Jessy dined with Katrina and Lyall at the chillipad (remember lowercase is cool) modern Asian cuisine restaurant. I had something best described as Mee Goreng's big sister - spicier with squid. I liked.

Conversation had great chemistry. I talked mostly to Jessy. It was curious how similar Blair and Katrina are. They are both quiet, reserved, enjoy books and not completely self assured but always very companionable. Jessy works for the same organisation that funds my hospital - the Department of Human Services (in Victoria the same state government department that runs hospitals also runs prisons). Jessy and I share an interest in creative arts. Jessy makes 'Video Art' and I am interested in film making (nursing is also very artistically satisfying). Jessy and I are definetly the more gregarious partners in our respective couples.

Katrina and I finished off the night with alfresco coffee and cake in Hardware Lane. Very European.

Well the night wasn't quite finished because we discovered that despite being 2145 David Jones (department store) was still open and DJs was having a MID YEAR CLEARANCE SALE. Katrina ran like a pouncing rabid dog towards the mountainous piles of hand bags reduced by 30% (Said in jest but Katrina does have a thing for bags). I checked out the menswear for a few minutes and then they kicked us out at 10 PM.

Guess where I went back to this morning?

At DJs I bought a cool black satchel bag and a black wool scarf. However the major purchase - a wool cashmere blend fabric made in Italy from Australian wool coat. It wasn't on special but it feels wonderful and far superior to the fabric on the other coats.

I must go back because I need some winter trousers and a few new shirts to make my wardrobe climate appropriate for Melbourne.

It is now 1 June 2006 which means it is the FIRST DAY OF WINTER and it's after midnight and I need to be asleep as I start work at 0700 hours.

I can hear the ambulance landing at the helipad of my hospital. I wonder what scrapes they have for us this morning?
