An Idiot's Guide to HIMYM:
1. HIMYM is abbreviation for How I Met Your Mother. Pronounced HIMYIM
2. There is NO scenario that you can come up with where Robin is the Mother. Deal with it. The writers have said many times starting with the very first episode that she is not the Mother, she is Aunt Robin. Again I say DEAL with it.

4. In case you are wondering "why haven't we met the mother?" Because when you title the show "How I Met Your Mother" it means you are telling the story of HOW he met the mother. Meaning the events leading up to his meeting the mother. If he meets the mother now, the story is over. The show is about the HOW not the when.
5. For those that haven't realized by now, I will share a secret, the show isn't really about Ted meeting the Mother. It's about these five awesome people who go through life having adventures together that are sometimes hilarious and sometimes heartbreaking. But these five people are the reason to watch, so, if you are only watching to see who the Mother is, then do us all a favor stop watching and wait for the last episode. Then buy the dvds and watch them all in their awesome glory. You are one of those people that like to skip to the end of the book to see how it ends.
6. If you pay attention to the show you will notice little easter eggs and clues the writers throw in for us. Like season 6 and 7 was a game for the more serious fan. Those of us paying attention were not surprised by Barney marrying Robin. It was so obvious.
7. Barney is not going to stay a womanizer. It would be a disservice to his character and to NPH to play him the way he was in season one. If you watch the show you will know that there is more to Barney than being THAT GUY. There is more to him than that. If you want him to stay in season one, then keep watching the classics. I love what they are doing with the character. He is more likeable and relatable this way, IMO.
8. I feel it needs to be said again, so reread #1. Seriously there is no way Robin is the Mother. The writers have done everything they can to kill that idea. The kids call her Aunt Robin, she can't have kids, she doesn't want kids, she doesn't love Ted, she wasn't in that Economics class, it wasn't her ankle, she is not standing in the rain at the train station at her wedding day, and most importantly Ted doesn't meet Robin at her own wedding to Barney. NO she is not the STEP mother. This isn't the story of how I met your step mother or adopted mother. DEAL with it. I understand there are those that still ship them because they like them together, and that's fine. But there are those that still actually think Robin is the mother. She's not.
