Tonight I caught a black rat snake in my workshop. I was putting away the battery charger for the lawn mower and went to pick up my weeding gloves so they would be in the garage when I needed them tomorrow evening. I took a step toward the stack of half-unpacked boxes and saw the snake dropping in between two of them from the corner of my eye. A ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we have heard all four of the calls I mentioned around here. The spring peepers and grey treefrogs are the dominant ones right now, but there is definitely a green frog and at least one bullfrog in the pond. I think the tadpoles we saw the other weekend were probably the spring peepers/tree frogs. I think I mentioned the other night that I caught a frog? Looking at the pictures, it was definitely a spring peeper.

What we really need to do is get a flashlight and some patience and go and stalk around the pond. We should be able to see one or two in action if we are lucky. A red lens would help, but isn't required.

Hmmm... I should probably try a frog lure in the pond some late evening. Actually, small poppers on the end of the fly rod might be a fun adventure... which reminds me that we actually have enough space and grass that I can get back to learning how to cast my fly rod (practicing on the road in ABQ tore the crap out of my line. Fly fishing usually means trout, but you can also use it for bass... and our pond is well set up for it.

No! You didn't mention you caught a frog! Cool!

I have a flashlight with interchangeable colour lenses. The one on it now is red... I used to use it to navigate backstage. I think I even know where it is!
