My laptop is buggy and Windows SUX

Jun 19, 2006 10:17

For some reason, a small colony of ants decided to make my laptop a home over the weekend. I discovered this unpacking it at work this morning. Now, I am sitting here typing and they are crawling out of the keyboard and ventilation holes and being squished as I see them. (Normally, I dislike gratuitously squishing bugs, but inside my laptop is a *really* poor place to choose to set up residence and just won't do *at all*.)

On other notes, Windows SUX. How can any operating system that will force a reboot for "security critical updates" without user intervention, overriding any running programs, call itself suited for scientific/engineering computing where long, unattended data runs are the norm? It is isn't reliability if the automatic patching of security holes causes the computer to reboot without the user's permission. Stupid operating system.

Finally, the written job offer from UM-R that was supposedly Fed-Ex'ed on tuesday still isn't here. I must go do some checking.
