So student teaching was interesting today. Bit stressful, but the kids were pretty good overall. Two major things stood out for me (emotionally, anyway):
One: For the "read aloud" section of the class, the teacher pulled out The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. That was my favorite Dr. Seuss book of all time. Just thinking about what we were going to read after lunch made me start tearing up (a lot) during my lunch break.
Two: From down the hall, the Brittish guitarist/singer who makes rounds every other Thursday was playing with another class. I heard music for a while, and I thought I recognized the tune. Finally I could hear the kids sing when I walked to the door. They were singing Puff the Magic Dragon. The verse I heard:
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!
Talk about wanting to cry! I haven't really heard that song done by kids in a long, long time... and with an amazing guitarist.
One more day before the weekend. No classes until Monday, either.
Time only to pack.
