This time of year rocks. There are so many traditions my family still celebrates. For 26 years now, my family and a whole bunch of family friends have celebrated the Green Glass Party. In 1981 my parents and four of their friends (two couples - married) had a party with these green wine glasses and a few years later decided to get their names inscribed in them. Then everybody started having kids. A rule was made that at the age of 13, you would be awarded your green glass with your name inscribed in it. Soon two more parent couples were invited into the group, and therefore more kids as well. A few years ago, boyfriends and girlfriends started coming (though a green glass is only given if you're married into this elite group). That's what made last year and this year cool. My sister's boyfriend got his last year when he proposed, and four more were given out this year; one to a guy marrying into the group, and three more to a family who has attended for many years but never had green glasses. We had nearly 30 people at a big long table this year. Thirty. And I love it. Tons of food, beverages, good wine (if you choose), spanish coffees and caroling.
We also have a caroling party with a different group of family friends. For this, there's tons of food and caroling as well, but this time it's at my house. My parents play their guitars, my sister plays the piano and I play the drums. This morning my dad told me we need to start a family band because we played so well together. We both know it's a fat chance, but the idea's fun.
I love shopping for people. I get such a kick out of it. The only thing I despise is other people doing the same thing, only more aggressively. I walk into a store and there are people like running with their baskets. They look like they could kill somebody. Here I am walking, it's like I'm in some movie, down the store looking down the isles. I know where I need to go, I just don't want to get trapped by carts. I'm walking and looking down isles for carts that are completely blocking. One cart rolls out from the isle ahead of me, and I need to stop, I turn around and there are people behind me. Bla! TRAPPED! That's what I hate. But shopping and buying stuff for people is fun. Plus then I get to wrap everything and watch the Muppet Christmas Carol.
