Probably the single most frustrating prompt I have ever -- ever, including standardized test prompts -- seen:
Describe the influence of African art.
. . . On what? On who? Which African art? When?
We asked the prof.
"On everybody," she said.
. . . Seriously?
Yes.
AAAAAGH.
It doesn't help that she didn't tell us at the outset of these single-page prompts that we would be expected to do outside research, just assumed we would, and then wouldn't listen when we said Well we didn't understand that obviously--
Agh. Just. Agh.
ETA: Okay, but Graceland makes things better.
Oh, these songs. These are my childhood; these are the cassette tape I played over and over and over again until I could mouth the Ladysmith Black Mombazo lyrics almost as well as I could the English ones. He's a poor boy, empty as a pocket, empty as a pocket with nothing to lose . . .
