I skipped the gym two days this week, but I stayed somewhat active. Monday, I had forgotten my water bottle. My original plan was to go home, grab a bottle, fill it up, and leave immediately. Then my plan was to park, then change, walk to the gym, and work out there. But I pulled in and I was late for the class, and I just had no ambition to go there. So I changed into jeans instead of workout clothes, and set out for a walk.
My usual walk is down to the corner, and then down the main street in town to a decent-sized shopping center. (I don't always shop there; I rarely do, but it's a nice destination.) I thought it was about a mile away from my house, but Google Maps tells me it's 2 miles. So that's 2 miles there and 2 miles back. I also rarely stop and take a break in between, usually choosing to make somewhat of a circle in the parking lot to come back.
Tuesday, I ended up staying at work until nearly 6PM, and I just had no desire to go work out. Also, I was hungry. I'd eaten lunch early, so I was hungry at that time that I got out of work. I'd missed the opportunity for working out, because I was too hungry (so I didn't want to work out on an empty stomach and maybe get lightheaded), and I couldn't work out after eating because when I do, it makes me feel like throwing up. So I decided to walk to Panera, get a soup, then go for a nice long walk (because walking after eating is good and isn't so active that it makes me sick). I walked past my corner and continuing down the main street to the shopping center, and then back to my house. I have a pedometer app on my phone, but it's not very accurate. According to WalkDroid, I walked almost 6 miles; according to Google Maps, it was about 4.5. So... make of that what you will.
Anyway, so I had a nice long walk on both those days when I didn't feel like going to the gym. And I got to listen to my podcasts and got a lot listened to. I usually listen to them when I'm in the car, but considering my commute is 10 minutes, it takes a long time to get through the hour+ podcasts.
Oh, podcasts- Winchester Radio, of course, and Grammar Girl were my staples for a while. I've also discovered Making It with Riki Lindhome and the Nerdist Writers Panel ("Ben Blacker talking writing with writers"). I tried the regular Nerdist podcast, but got bored with it quickly.
