Kiss or kill
I don't know whether I want to kiss someone or kill them.
I have been having headaches and difficulty seeing my computer screen for...a while now. A few weeks. This weekend it got so bad that I spent a lot of time in bed with my contacts out, writing fiction long-hand. This morning I called in sick to work--emailed in, actually--and went to the eye doctor's to have my prescription checked before going to the doc-in-a-box to see about a sinus infection. The prescription seemed like a long-shot, but this did start happening a little while after I got new contact lenses.
I gave the woman at the counter my boxes of unopened contact lenses and asked her to please, please check the prescription. She pulled my records, checked the box against the printout of the prescription, said it looked fine. Then--thank god--she checked the doctor's notes. She started flipping between the printout and the handwritten notes, and then showed me the doctor's notes. The 1 in 180 had fallen on the line in the form, leaving someone to read it as 80. This was on the axis of rotation for correcting my astigmatism, so essentially I had a double astigmatism in that eye--my dominate eye, of course.
She apologized profusely and found me a lens with the correct prescription. Suddenly I can see!
But I still have a headache of monumental proportions.
