Where do I begin? It’s been pretty much ‘Go Time’ to get my Darkmore submission packets in order. Now, it’s gotten to that point that if I pick at them anymore, I’ll make myself crazy. It is what it is. All that remains is waiting on feedback from a few sources on what’s gravy and what’s gristle and then off they go.
The nitpick stage of edits continues apace. My goal is to be ready by end of April. If I put the pedal to the floor and do two chapters a day, I’ll finish by April 11th. My birthday. However, I still have to balance things like college and life. As it stands, my regular gym workouts have taken a hit. The good news is my eating habits haven’t gone into the utter toilet. I’ll take my victories where I can get them.
Other than that, life is fairly dandy. It’s a manageable level of crazy, but that’s like any day. I’m speeding towards 33 years old and I’m fairly certain I’ll be gifted with My Little Ponies. It’s kind of the go-to gift in my family. “Do you know what Lex wants?” “No. Get her a pony.” Honestly, I will never turn down ponies because they are awesome. At 33 they’re still awesome. You know it.
The wacky Twilight Zone-y story of the day happened yesterday while I was helping Mom clean out the garage. I found a printed copy of the very first graphic novel script I wrote. I’m kind of terrified to read it. We also found a huge bin of my sketchbooks that’s moved with us since the early ’90s and it was my mission to go through them. In them were pages upon pages of Darkmore drawings and notes. I had old drawings of current characters such as Bianca and Cassandra. I tore out a few of the best ones and shucked the rest of the book.
I get to the very last book in the bin that Mom and I determine is from 1996. At the time I was 17. One of the pages has a list of alternate titles for Darkmore because I knew even then I needed to call it something different. My 17-year-old self circled one I had liked and I got chills upon reading it. The title?
Chasing Sunrise
Considering the Sevon’s fascination with sunlight and themes of light in this book it’s perfect. And this was long before I had come up with Sevon at all. Mom looked at me with this big dopey grin and said “………..That. That is what the book is called!”
Just goes to show: Just because you have an idea that doesn’t work right now doesn’t mean it won’t later. Like… 15 years later.
Yeah. Chasing Sunrise. What does the wide world of the internet think?
